Amph What was the last book you bought?

A Decent Ride, by Irvine Welsh. Didn't even know he had a new book out until a couple of weeks ago (last year's release, The Sex Lives of Siamese Twins, was a bit of a dud).

This looks to be a welcome and filthy return to familiar territory - every time he's tried to venture out of Leith and away from the usual characters, the stories end up feeling flat and a bit pretentious.

Dark Disciple

 

The Eleventh Son a novel of Martial Arts and Tangled Love by Gu Long. My first Wuxia. I am delighted to discover it's the source material for my favorite Ti Lung film (Swordsman and Enchantress.) I wish more of these wuxia were translated into English, but to find one based on a film I really enjoy is terrific. I am looking forward to reading this.

I almost picked up an anthology of giallo style stories too, but that can wait.

A Dance With Dragons and The World of Ice & Fire. The paintings are amazing in that book, I really recommend it.

 

Last book I bought was Visions of Glory, As Told To John Pontius

Why: I had a copy before but I gave it to my friend and he read it, so I bought another because its so good, and didn't want to be an Indian giver.

 

Klondike by Pierre Berton. I am giving it to my sister-in-law in anticipation of an Alaska cruise next year.

Picked up Trouble in Mind by Jeffery Deaver for half-price at the supermarket this morning. It's a collection of short stories featuring his series characters.

LAJ_FETT, is that the old WEG RPG supplement? I always enjoyed turning the pages for the Executor's full silhouette.

 

No - it's a new book. It's in the same vein as the Jedi Path, Book of Sith, and Bounty Hunter Code books. You can see it here on Amazon UK. It was released awhile back in a fancy boxed set but this is the (way cheaper) standalone book.

 

The Dark Forest which is a sequel to The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu.
