    Anna Karenina (1948)

Vivien Leigh did a somewhat "ok" job as Anna, the whole movie was decent.

Which Anna has delivered the best performance in the death scene?

When I started reading that book in the late '90s, my mother gave the ending away. I might have watched the Showtime version of Anna Karenina later but was so into the book it didn't feel right.
I rewatched There Will Be Blood. That title is like a promise.
I also sort of rewatched Jack Reacher, remembering that the first time I watched it I fell asleep in the middle but kept watching through the end after I awoke.

Darth Guy, I was also shocked at the way the Oscars just roundly snubbed Nightcrawler; I think Screenplay was the only nomination it got. Gyllenhaal gave a really fine performance and I liked the movie better than some of the BP nominees as well. But the thing I would have really liked to see was Rene Russo nominated for Best Supporting. Not winning, but she was certainly better than some of the Best Supporting nominees.

    Whiplash(2014) - Damien Chazelle

Well, what to say about Whiplash? It’s the story of a young, arrogant, obsessive jazz drummer and his abusive, driven, raging teacher. Miles Teller, quickly becoming one of our finest young actors, and J.K. Simmons, a venerable character actor, are both absolutely brilliant in this film. The scenes of their face-offs are intense and crackle with great chemistry and energy. The movie as a whole really is quite intense; a lot of scenes function like scenes from a thriller, where the tension ratchets tighter and tighter until the explosion. There are great scenes aplenty; a late night marathon drumming session with three drummers being driven to exhaustion, a quiet scene where Simmons expresses grief and sadness, an insane race to get to a concert on time. And that ending sequence is one of the best of the year. It captures, like no other film I’ve ever seen, the simultaneous ecstasy and terror of performing live music. Whiplash is a masterpiece, nothing short. Highly recommended. 4 stars.

tl;dr – crackling chemistry between its two stars, great music and a gripping screenplay all come together to create an absolute masterpiece. 4 stars.

    Big Hero 6

It was pretty decent and I loved Baymax, but that oscar should've gone to The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

'Zodiac', my personal favorite Fincher film. It's a brilliant take on this sort of serial killer thriller. It feels like a movie Alfred Hitchcock would have made. It's all about a serial killer who exists only in loose memories and in the imagination of the audience and the characters. It is both fascinating and genuinely frightening especially at the end when the case has gone cold and most of the scenes are Gyllenhaal going through police archives...

John Wick. Beautifully shot, with an almost respectable performance from Keanu Reeves as a ridiculously talented former hitman delving back into a curious underworld for the sake of vengeance. Unfortunately, it sort of fizzled out in its last fifteen minutes and it almost makes you think a sequel might eventually come forth, as unlikely as that may be.

    I loved that puppy though.

I've never seen Zodiac in its entirety but the bits and pieces I've seen were almost always utterly - even unbearably - suspenseful. I don't know if it's been said before but Fincher is truly the 21st century's Hitchcock. I have to get this one out of my Netflix queue.

You NEED to watch it. Fincher is way more of a Hitchcock director than Brian De Palma ever was.

The movie leaves out certain seemingly important details such as the fact that Lake Berryessa victim Bryan Hartnell identified Arthur Leigh Allen's voice as that of his assailant.
