What was the point of having R2 know EVERYTHING?

It certainly makes sense. I must confess that never occurred to me before!

 

How funny, I started thinking about this the other day. Actually, I was thinking, "If 3PO was created by Anakin, then why doesn't he say something about Luke's last name (if he learned it, that is)?" Then I said, "Oh, duh, he got a memory wipe, of course he wouldn't remember."

R2 is supposed to know every blasted thing because he's the Little Droid That Could. What would the world be like without him? If R2 didn't know and remember everything, chances are Yavin 4 would have been floating cardboard by now.

Go R2!!

 

An obviously, there's the beautiful way that R2's language is indistinguishable!

 

That was the one thing I was wondering about... I went through in my mind all the times where R2's behavior in the OT seemed to maybe not fit with him "knowing" and the "R2 vs Yoda For the Lamp" was the only real thing that concerned me. So...maybe that's it!
