What were your favourite sound effects from the OT

Hi all,

I was 8 years old when ANH was first released in the UK. I remeber being blown away by the films special effect and the sound effects. I still think my favourite sounds from the OT are the high pitch roaring of the Tie fighters. The Falcons quad guns when escaping from the DS and the rumble of a star destroyer. I'll never forget those sounds

Edit: I also thought that Han's blaster sounded more powerful and cooler than everyone elses.

What were your favourites ?

 

The lightsaber ignition, easily.

 

the noise tie fighters make, it still is one of my favorites.

 

I always loved the sound the metal bikini makes against Leia's milky white skin.

The sound of lightsabers clashing. You know the **** has hit the fan when you hear that.

 

Several:
That lightning sound you get to hear in the Trilogy and Raiders of the Lost Ark (maybe someone knows what I'm talking about?)
The Wilhelm scream
The newly added BONK to the ANH Stormtrooper bonking his head
The explosion after Vader threw the Emperor down the shaft
The TIE that got hit by a Asteroid circling around till it hits another one.

I have to say TIE, too. It's just the coolest. Most games were 100% Star Wars when I heard a TIE fighter

 

Either the Bespin Cloud Car, or the Imperial Probe Droid's alarm.

 

TwiLekSith - Oi, I'm sorry you had to edit my post. Force of habit when it comes to that phrase. Didn't occur to me to edit it further. ^^;; I'll avoid such coarse language in the future.

BTW, speaking of lightsaber sounds, does anyone wonder *why* some of them sound different upon igniting? You would assume they all have the same basic design...just, perhaps, with different energy sources.

 

I'd say Luke's saber ignition in ROTJ

 

R2-D2 farting in TESB. I just laugh my head off when I hear it.

 

I thought the part where he vomitted up the bog water was funnier. Luke's reprimanding expression is priceless. Really, Lucas and the cast did so well to make R2-D2 more than just a prop item.

If we're talking about the prequels, I love the sound of Jango's blaster. It sounds so much more powerful.

In "Raider's..." Indy's pistol sound was actually a shot gun blast. Maybe Ben Burtt used the idea first in ANH, making his gun sound "Bigger" than everyone else's.

I love all of Chewie's moans. They emote to me better than words.

music may be different than sound per this discussion..but i just loved....in ESB when han does the flip in the falcon just before they head into the thing that wasnt a cave. just after threepio says, oh this is suicide....the music goes from the chase music..to something else, it gives me goose bumbs.

as for sounds: i loved all the answers so far (tie fighter and the lighsaber espically) so i will try to give a different answer. i loved jabbas laugh.

the entire speeder chase in ROTJ. sure there's a little dialog but you got the speeders, the blasters, explosions, and Luke's saber towards the end of the chase all in one seqeunce.

 

Lightsabers hands down, IMO.

I always like the AT-ATs and AT-STs shooting and walking. Then after that it would be TIE fighters, Millenium Falcon, then other ships. Oh yeah, forgot about the probe droid! And if Chewie's growl counts, that too.

Prequels: "Seismic charges! Stand by..."

 

The alarm and charging sound of the DSII's superlaser as well as the sound the Liberty makes when she's hit.

I don't have a FAVERITE sound-because I just don't-, but I will read off a list. #1:lightsabers-all sounds. #2:TIE fighter's engine.#3:The carbon-freezing sound.#4:All-yes all-of the blaster blasts.#5:the 'thunk' that threepio's arm made when he "rested" it on artoo's dome.*and*#6arth Vader's breath mask.

TIE Fighters.

Lightsabres turning off. I still can't imitate that .

Lando's scream when he gets grabbed by the Sarlaac. It sounds like he's trying to dislodge an eel from his esophagus.

Force Lightning. Sounds like the electrical short from hell.

 

The lightsaber effect of course, and the EEEEEEAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH!! screaming that Luke made in ESB when he fell in cloud city (it's not on the new version ) and sidious makes the same sound when Vader throws him down into the core of the death star.

It seems that people around vader are always falling.
