->> A young typical girl as protagonist.

Now hold your horses, I'm not being a dick here. I love how the SW universe has in its orginal movies so little female characters, the ones that are actually important to the storyline are that more interesting and have great characters (,to me).

When you look at cinema worthy movies that are made today, that have a similar story (a particular "society" confronted with a hidden or clear evil, and young rebels going out to save the world on a quest that involves self discovery and emotional maturity) like The hunger games, Divergent and what not, the story loses so much of its power because of the fact that it is being colsed up on to the protagonist. The main storyline get's caught up in feelings, insecurity and other typical female accents. As I get the feeling that this is becoming the norm for the younger generation of films, I fear that Star Wars might also take that turn under the excuse of making the saga more politically correct and "accessible".

Let's face it, movies coming out today are much more pathetic and spend a whole lot of time zooming in on these emotions and inner conflicts, which can be quite pointless especially for SW's typical fast rithm of storytelling. If they use girls they better keep them bad ass and not adjust them to today's hipster manner of commercial thinking 'cause I'm not sitting through SW when the focus is as described above. Again, I do not have a problem with females in SW, that's not what I'm saying here. Maybe seeing these new sentimental movies has made my statement somewhat radical, but I want "Star Wars", not "express yourself through the force, in 2 hours or more".

Setting spotlight on the adventurous "dumb" male (or female) might be a good standard to keep the Universe underground and dangerous, which is why I love it so much.

    Here's the thing.

Episode I made incredible money. It was primarily a kid's flick, so the little ones liked Anakin and Jar Jar, despite the eye rolling from adults. Plus it was the first SW movie in 16 years. It was an event.

AOTC took an absurd plunge. Even with the competition from Spiderman, it shouldn't have plummeted $120 million. That's crazy. ROTS gained back some of that, but not as much as it should have.

Now, Ep7 won't apparently be a kid's flick. If the rumors hold up (no pun intended-and I REALLY don't think they will), then the film starts with a pretty sordid and comical way. It will make people laugh and cringe at the same time.

Repeat business would be sour, particularly for a Christmas time release.

So will it make people walk out? Probably not. Will it be able to pull in massive repeat business? If the rumors are true, unfortunately not so much.

I've never been mad enough to walk out of a film, so I really don't know. Maybe if they throw in some blatant dig at the prequels. That'll rub me the wrong way.

Seriously, if there's a hand - A HAND -- tumbling through space in minute one, that ticket is all yours, buddy.

^^^ Agreed! But I am 100% confident there will never be a hand floating in outer space in a SW movie.

Just ain't gonna happen-no way no how.

If Jar Jar and midi-chlorians couldn't get me to walk out of TPM nothing can get me to walk out of a Star Wars film.

Not in these parts. Example.. Dawn of the Apes.. Its played in 3D in the VIP room, Imax, Regular room, D-Box, Ultra AVX and room with CC. No 2D options.
And considering 3D is about 3-5$ more than 2D... its justa quick cash grab.

I dont enjoy it.. kinda gives me eye strain and besides Avatar there hasnt been a "must see" in 3D IMO.

A full frontal nude image of George Lucas might make me leave. I envision the image slowly creeping up the screen during the opening scrawl...hence the Creeping Fear.

After the scrawl, the camera pans down..and a hand clutching a light sabre tumbling in space drifts by the camera heading toward a planet (only joking. Just joking :)

The best part is, we'd all still watch the movie and pay to see the sequels.

I skipped Spider-Man 3 because of bad reviews. I gave Amazing a chance to re-hook me, but I skipped 2 on bad reviews. I hear Days of Future Past didn't suck, but I'm still not over the travesty that was X3 so I skipped it too. I've never missed a Marvel Cinematic movie yet, but unless the reviews aren't better than mediocre I'll probably be skipping Guardians of the Galaxy (Captain America 2 was AWESOME though) until its on Netflix.

Don't pretend that I'm the only person like this and don't pretend that because it's "Star Wars" that it's immune to this. Indeed, the fact that its JJ at the helm instead of Lucas will give plenty of people on the fence the out to skip Ep7 of 'it's not REALLY Star Wars since its Disney and not Lucas'.

That's why it is absolutely critical that JJ and Disney knock Ep7 out of the park and not throw controversial or potentially ridiculous elements up on the screen (especially during the cold open). There is too great a risk of people being able to go 'Lucas isn't running it and now it sucks' if its mediocre and losing them entirely because they know Lucas will never be coming back. It'll be like 'Highlander' where a non-trivial part of its fanbase simply refuse to acknowledge any films other than the first. Disney cannot afford that sort outcome... not after spending $4 billion on it.

As is the norm with films such as these that are in production, when the actors who are going to appear in it are coincidentally questioned about it, they usually turn to page 1 of the pre written book of boring responses to such questions. And there has been that, to a degree. But in the main I think the actors response about their excitement at the story and script has been a real one.
