What's a ping?

I am a new multiplayer gamer and wanted to know what ping is? Like on counter strike and jedi academy?

It's actually the time it takes for data to be sent from your PC to the game host. The bigger the ping, the slower your connection. The slower your connection, the greater the lag (ie. the difference between you hitting fire, and the bullet actually firing in-game). And the greater the lag you cause the more likely you're going to annoy the other users on with a lower ping.

To reduce your ping, play on servers closer to your physical location, or get a faster internet connection.
