Because if anyone of us had an original idea, we damn well wouldn't be posting about it here, would we? So here's the next best thing. Apparently VLM made a thread ages ago about what remakes would piss you off the most. I know, because I searched to see if there are any duplicates of this thread. I'm asking you the opposite question. What original film would poop you on the the least? What property would you actually like to see remade, reimagined or started over?

An idea that I've had for a long time is that, just like each of the Mission Impossible flicks have a different director and a different style from one another, I would like it a lot if, when Star Wars is inevitably completely remade some day in the future when half of us are dead, that they do the same. Where one is completely kid friendly and innocent, like a Pixar flick. Another is like a hormonal teen action flick for the pimply faces like Fast and Furious. One is like a war epic. One is like a lighthearted romp in the style of the Marvel flicks or Indy. And so on. The story is the same that we know (well, maybe some changes here and there), but each chapter tells it in a different style.

None. Remakes by and large suck (well comic book movies tend to be an exception because like the comic books themselves, you expect them to eventually reboot/remake themselves)

Casino Royale most definitely did not "suck". It doesn't acknowledge the previous continuity, so it can be considered a restart.

12 Years a Slave is due for a remake, isn't it? It's already been released for an entire year.. why the long wait?
This time it should have plenty of robots, the slaves should be blue and the score should be by Hans Zimmer.

    And a car chase.

Star Wars. Rebooting everything back to about 1987 would be nice, kthx.

Ender Sai, I find the terms to apply interchangeably, since most times, there's also a reimagining that goes along with a reboot, as was the case with Casino Royale and most every other franchise restart. Past continuity is ditched with Casino Royale and its sequels, is it not? I do realise, however, that sometimes a project is called a reboot even if it's in the same continuity as before. Like with the new Trek movies that, because of a time travel plot point, can acknowledge the old films despite starting everything from scratch. Or how The Bourne Legacy was called a reboot of sorts, because it shifted the focus to a new character. That kind of tricks are done rarely, though. Mostly, a reboot automatically also means remake. Unless you only count frame-by-frame re-shooting the old movie with new actors as a remake. If so, we have different understandings of the word remake.

They're doing a new animated Flintstones feature with Will Ferrel voicing. Could be fun.

The 21 Jump Street movie was only based on the basic premise of the TV show, which is cops who pretend to be high school students. If they'd ripped off the premise, but called it something else, everyone would be calling it a ripoff, despite that it's doing something completely different with it, which is a goofy comedy. While now, they're acknowledging the origin of the premise by calling it the same thing, but they're still doing something completely different with it. Except now, everyone's complaint is, paradoxically, how different it is from its namesake. So you see, one can't win.

Incidentally, it was hilarious. So was the Green Hornet movie, which was full of homages to the show.

There is no such thing as being ripe for a remake. You sound like Michael Bay.

Considering Bond never had a 'true' origin story before the Craig!Casino Royale, I kind of consider that the exception to the rule.

I wouldn't mind if Disney remade The Black Hole, considering what we know about black holes now compared to 1979.

That, or cameo appearances of VINCent, Maximilian and Old BOB in the new Star Wars films.

Clive Barker's Nightbreed/Cabal film could use a serious remake.

It would be the fourth time around for the story, but I still want to see Richard Matheson's I Am Legend really done right. The three film versions already in existence all have interesting ideas in them, but none of them really gets very close to right on tone - and they all basically butcher the central twist. They're all entertaining enough, but none of them really represent the story.

Yes, if there's one thing I think when I watch the Humphrey Bogart version of The Maltese Falcon, it's "Boy, this sucks. I wish they had stuck with the aggressively mediocre original two versions."

Those would be The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price and The Omega Man with Charlton Heston.

    That is already being done...unfortunately.
STAR WARS has already been remade. Everything from Hardware Wars to Robot Chicken to the completely unfunny Family Guy stuff to a Muppet Babies episode to even the Prequels could be considered remakes of STAR WARS. It's been done through fan films in anime style, with toys, and with "Premakes" and with changes to the actual movies so much that there would be nothing left to explore. A remake would be for the people who treat movies like they treat software and gadgets now. "It's been a few years and I've upgraded my iPhone four times, so why is there still a movie from 2007 without a reboot?"

You could leave Maximilian out, but I would love to see these two again.

Interesting that Vincent Price dies as a Christ metaphor in a church, Charlton Heston dies as a Christ
metaphor in a fountain and Will Smith simply blows himself up with a hand grenade.

Or was it the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, and I just missed that bit?

i think they should start the next round of spiderman remakes now. i mean, why lose the momentum? if they started now they could get the third spiderman 1 out before the second spiderman 3. i mean, they could have the fourth spiderman 1 ready to go even before the third spiderman 2!

I think Diney wants to do a Black Hole remake...development hell? I'm all for it.

And Masters of The Universe would be great, but they need to settle on some kind of continuity as He-Man has been everything from strong enough to rip a large door of its hinges to near Superman strength. In the original comics with the figures he was essentially Conan but he could put on a Stength Garment and had low end super strength. Later, he was just super strong.

i'd be interested in a really bloody he-man remake. like where he-man stabs skeletor in the neck with his power sword, he twists off evil-lyn's head, etc. there could even be a gay sex scene between he-man and zodac. i would absolutely watch this.
