The online reviews I've seen for the Darth Maul comic seem to have a simple consensus: the artwork is quite good visually, but the dialogue is scarce to the point of nonexistent, as is the plot.

The storyline basically seems to have Maul hacking his way through waves of Black Suners and enemy critters and little else, with the minimal of speech he's come to be known for.

Do you still think the Maul comic is good enough to get?

    Maul kills bad men.

    The end.

But he does it so well it's worth getting. ;)

It also serves as a lead-in to Michael Reaves's well-worth-checking-out hardcover novel Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter (such a gormless title, but anyways...). It has to something do with the Neimoidians and Black Sun (he said quite vaguely, not wanting to spoil the whole shootin' match).

Its worth getting Excellence. It has indeed little story and dialogue of Maul, but the art is 1 of the best i ever saw in a SWcomic.

Yeah, it's some of Jan Duursema's best.

Combined with COD and DM:SH, you have an excellent prelude trilogy to TPM.

Keep an eye out for Monchar's cameo (the neimoidian in DM:SH) in the comic too- hehe.

And I might also add Prelude to Rebellion (Republic #1-6) in there, too -- it's also a great subtle lead-in to the film, from a different perspective.

I would highly recommend it. It's just a fun, fast-paced novel with striking art and tighly packed action.

    Complements Shadow Hunter very nicely!

    It was awesome!!!!!

    SPOILER!!!!

I really liked that one part when that telepath, after looking in Maul's mind, says something like "It's so... dark." and then collapses. Priceless moment!

Thanks guys. But the sparse dialogue didn't bother you? By The Emperor's Hand had excessive thought bubbles, but you want to see your primary character speaking a bit.

Twilight is the only sample of Jan's work I've currently got, and if what I saw there is her standard, it's very well worth checking out.

Maul isn't a talker though. Think about it.

"I am a Sith, I'm going to kill you and all of your kind... blah blah blah."

    No, doesn't work.

Maul is a blade in the hands of Sidious, nothing more. He's just an engine of hate.

Having just got the NEGC, Maul's entry told me more of his past and background than his own Shadow Hunter book ever did.

well, Shadow Hunter is just a chapter of his life, while the NeGtC tries to sum up his whole life. Shadow Hunter may be the only novel we'll get about him, but there are other venues for delving into his story... (the comic series Darth Maul, the ebook Saboteur, a few of the stories in SW Tales (Hate leads to lollipops).

the comic was all about the art, as it is action-oriented, just as the character is.

Some of the best artwork for a SW comic. Though Chewbacca is my favorite in all categories, Maul comes in second

Just found out the Nightsister duel used a Sith sword from another thread.

Decision made. Choice decided. Have to add Darth Maul to my next comics-to-steal-list!

    Excellence and I both. :D

Having just got the NEGC, Maul's entry told me more of his past and background than his own Shadow Hunter book ever did.

If you're looking for insight into Maul's character, I'd recommend his Journal. It's been a while since I read it, but I remember it being very informative.

Yeah, I'm getting quite a collection, but from posts I've seen it's a very pale significance to others. With me, because of internat shipping I have to order bulk items rather than single purchases.

I got all these this year. Thank the stars for amalgamated birthday money! So far I've got 16 comics:

    Rogue Squadron
    Phantom Affair (excellent)
    Battleground Tatooine (average)
    Warrior Princess (awful)
    In the Empire's Service (outstanding)
    Blood and Honor (cool)
    Masquerade (excellent)
    Mandatory Retirement (excellent)

    Star Wars Ongoing
    Outlander (to be read)
    Emissaries to Malastare (good)
    Hunt for Aurra Sing (average)
    Twilight (excellent)

    By The Emperor's Hand (outstanding)

Awaiting Tales of the Jedi order
    Knights of the Republic
    Dark Lords of the Sith
    The Sith War
    Redemption

New Comic list to eventually get:

    -Darkness
    -Rite of Passage
    -Prelude to Rebellion
    -Darth Maul
    -Stark Hyperspace War
-(Golden Age and Fall of the Sith Empires)

Sorry for the triplicate posts. I knew I had a page error, but wasn't aware it was still posting somehow!

Ah, I'm still waiting for the reprint of Dark Empire with that great new cover. Soon as Amazon and their admirable 20 or 30 percent discount shows it, I'll be a heretic no longer!
