I think the problem with the B-Wing is the toy. It was big, klunky, and hard to play with. I think that led to people going "Meh. This thing sucks..." -C
I've always loved the B-Wing. Probably because it was so rarely seen. I had to have the toy when I was a kid, and was so happy to get it. I remember when the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter expansion came out and it included the B-Wing... oh man I was thrilled. I even created a new squadron for the B-Wing in our online gaming navy lol. Wow, that was a long time ago.
I absolutely love the B-wing. One of my favorite Rebel ships (right behind the A-wing). The B-wing pilot was not actually part of the POTF line, he came before POTF (original 77), A-wing pilot was POTF.
My brother hated it for some reason. I think B-Wing is a poor name, looks more like a cross to me. That might be why people don't like it, because shaping it like a cross is an unoriginal "oh hey it's kinda like an X" idea. I'm a TIE Fighter guy myself, but of the Rebel fighters I like the Y-wing best.
Do you know what "hate" really is? In my opinion "doesn't like" is a better word to describe those feelings. To me, the reasons you named are not enough to develop "hate" against a fictional starship-class from a science fantasy franchise.
So you're one of those people who doesn't understand that people sometimes use the word "hate" when they mean "dislike" ?
The toy is a pain to display (God only knows how they're supposed to land). You almost have to hang them from the ceiling. That said, I think it's quite cool looking.
I really liked the B-wing! But it's not a favorite of mine, and I guess that's simply because of the role they play in battle. It was heavy on the ion cannons and defense, and didn't have much else going for it, but that was okay - it served a necessary purpose and had a really neat design. It can't compare to the versatility and showmanship of an X-Wing or the speed of an A-Wing, but it doesn't need to. It's there to blow the big stuff to smithereens with the Y-Wing (my least favorite because it's so slow and bulky, but, again, it fulfills a necessary purpose) while the other ships take care of everything else. I remember being very impressed when I first saw the B-Wing unfold itself into attack position. It's still a unique and beautiful design, in my opinion.
I could see why. From a design standpoint, it's certainly the odd one out compared to the other 3 signature Rebel craft. Unlike them, the letter B isn't that obvious. That and I think their lack of exposure in ROTJ didn't help. But personally I like it. I'm considering getting an Action Fleet B-Wing that my hobby shop has in stock because of its unique design. It'll look great next to my diecast B-Wing.
See the thing about the B-Wing is that all we know about it is from the movies...where it did jack s&^t. All the awesomeness we get of the B-Wing is from the EU.
B-Wing is my second favorite Rebel starfighter next to the A-Wing. I always loved the design. I wish it saw more action in ROTJ though.
X-Wing rock !! i figure this they both work good together B-Wing flies with and escort of X-Wing's. The B-Wings are equipped with ship to ship lasers, and the X-Wings engage the ties while the Bs go and harass the capital ships.
It looks the same way to me. I have always liked it no matter what letter of the alphabet is resembles. I liked flying it in the old nintendo video game. It felt powerful.
