trying to do some numbers and I see as a single guy after insurance and taxes and no 401k plan I have one third of my pay goes to all of that before I get my check.

what about 0z, any worse or better?

Approx. 20% (roughly depending on your trade) goes to taxes. YOu can claim alot back, but thats not my area of expertise, that'd be Justifiers! :p But Superannuation and medical coverage are options you can have taken automatically as well. frowns Been a while, so I cant help much more than that.

This might give you some idea Beez

    Personal Income Tax Rates

As an employee you'd be also contributing 9% of pre-tax income to superannuation (which is equivalent to your 401K I think). You'd need to check with the employer if that was included or on top of any specified pay rates.

You'll have to change your terminology there! Gas is well, just that gas (a vapour like substance) we call the other stuff petrol (Unleaded of course) or diesel.

Unfortunately in my industry we are under paid, they got permission from the government to pay us below award wage. But it's flexible around the kids, so thats why I tolerate it until the youngest reaches school age.

I pay full tax, even thou it's my only job, so nearly 30%, but it's a good saving scheme, because I get alot back:D .(well I'm hoping it will be like last few years, as I haven't done my tax yet)

HECS debt = Higher Education Contribution Scheme. You get to study at University then payback your tuition fees through your income once you graduate. Though things may have changed now. Hope not.

That's correct, and you don't have to pay any back until you get to like 30+ K a year IIRC. You can also pay it off voluntarily and get discount.

Yeah, they don't start taking out HECS until you reach the 38K mark, as I found out ... [face_frustrated]
