CT Whats your favorite Yoda line or moment in ESB?

Mine would have be when he lifted the x-wing up , really is one of my favorite parts in the whole film especailly when he says "that is why you failed."

 

Moment: Levitating the X-Wing.

Line: Wars not make one great.

 

The Dagobah scenes in TESB are among my favourite in the whole saga. I can't speak highly enough of everyone involved in Yoda's creation and performance and Mark Hamill deserves a lot of praise for his acting alongside a puppet. If I had to choose a favourite line I'd go with his speech about the nature of the force. "Luminous being are we" etc.

 

The whole scene when Luke and Yoda first meet. I'm not sure if Yoda critiquing the rations that Luke had been eating is my favorite Yoda line, him telling Luke that the flashlight is the price for his help or him 'mud hole? slimy? my home this is!'.

 

That scene (lifting the X-wing) is amazing on so many levels. John Williams' music, Luke having given up in frustration and beaten old Yoda showing him a ray of hope in a rewarding, nurturing way, like a mother lion showing her cubs how to hunt. The lesson to us, the viewer, of never giving up, anything is possible...

 

This kind of stuff IS Star Wars to me. Magical and transporting. I'm tearing up here...

 

I love every moment of Yoda in ESB. I would also agree that his finest moment is lifting the X-Wing, and the little speech he gives to Luke just before (the "luminous beings" speech) is my favorite Yoda dialogue. That whole part is one of the finest moments in the whole saga.

Also, a special mention must be made of Yoda fighting with Artoo over the flashlight. Makes me laugh every time.

 

Lots of great choices here. I'll add this moment:

Luke: I'm not frightened.
Yoda: You will be.

That funny little guy just got real serious and scary in a moment. Major kudos to Frank Oz and his acting skills.

 

He could send a shiver down your spine when he felt like it alright.

 

I liked how Yoda shut R2-D2's door after wrestling over the lamp.

 

As I get older I love the Yoda scenes in ESB more and more.

My favourite has always been how quickly he turns from irritating gremlin to serious critical Jedi Master - you see that the annoying crackpot old creature was the first of Luke's tests.

"Ready are you? What know you of ready? For 800 years have I trained Jedi! My own counsel I will keep on who is to be trained"

 

Fighting R2 with the stick!

 

" Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship."


I loved it as a kid, but today, this scene has helped made Yoda my favorite Star Wars character.

 

Raising the X-Wing. And kudos to John Williams. Without the amazing score, the scene would have had half the impact for me.

 

That is my favorite Yoda moment as well. And of course, the music by John Williams is incredible. Wouldn't be the same scene without it.

 

it gives me the chills when Luke sits down after failing to raise the X-Wing and Yoda goes into his speech "Judge me by my size......luminous beings are we....."

 

Yoda have many awesome lines and raising the X-wing is definitely in the top three for me too. But I have two other favourites:

1. "When 900 years age you reach look as good you will not." A bit of humour during a very sad scene when it's apparent what's coming.
2. "Do or do not. There is no try". As a teacher I have a very soft spot for that one.

 

I also like whole scene of Luke talking with Yoda in the hut.
"As he looked away over the horizon , never thinking were he was, hmm, what he was doing"

I don't think i got that quote quit right but you get the idea.

The whole crazy little goblin act he puts on when Luke arrives. Makes me wonder if that's how he acts to all visitors to Dagobah (If there ever was any other visitors to that crummy planet lol)

 

Yoda in Luke's camp. The banter is hilarious, and I can't not laugh at Yoda saying "Mudhole? Slimey? My home, this is!"
