Seeing as that John Williams has worked almost execusivley with Steven Spielberg, what's everyone's favourite soundtrack, for a Steven Spielberg film? To help refresh your memory, here's a list of the films they worked on together:-

    The Sugarland Express
    Jaws
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    1941
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    E.T
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
    Empire of the Sun
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
    Always
    Hook
    Jurassic Park
    Schindler's List
    The Lost World
    Amistad
    Saving Private Ryan
    A.I

My favourite probably has to be Close Encounters of the Third Kind, as it's the most different from all the others. What's everyone else's favourite, and sorry if this thread has been done before!

E.T., with Schindler's List and Jurassic Park close seconds.

I find it difficult to choose a favorite among the Williams/Spielberg collaborations. I love the magical aspect of E.T and Hook. I love the action-packed moments of Jaws, Jurassic Park/The Lost World and the Indiana Jones Trilogy. I find Amistad and Schindler's List both sad and uplifting. And I find the uniqueness of A.I and Close Encounters to be one of those scores' best attributes. But I simply can't single one of them out as my favorite.

I think the only John Williams soundtrack that he's done for a Steven Spielberg film that wasn't terribly good has to be The Sugarland Express, but then again it is very different from the other Steven Spielberg films he's done.

I have only heard the main theme of The Sugarland Express, but it is definitely unlike anything heard in later Williams/Spielberg scores. The theme was more reminiscent of The Reivers, which was (along with The Cowboys) the score that brought Williams to Spielberg's attention.

I've read this thread a while ago, and like then, I'm unsure of my own answer. Probably like many others, I find Williams' work hard to rate, Spielberg films or not. Within this limit, I would say E.T., Jurassic Park, and Schindler's List are my top three over all film scores, even though the finale of Close Encounters of the Third Kind is probably one of my favorite cues.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to warm up to The Lost World...

But for me, the BEST in terms of composition, emotion, and tone would definetlely have to be Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Even though it's hardly Steven Spielberg's or John Williams's best work, the 1941 theme is really beginning to grow on me. Maybe I should give the film another chance...

    I've never seen Hook before...

No one's voted for A.I, or Saving Private Ryan yet. Hmm...

Do yourself a favor, don't see Hook. Enjoy the soundtrack first and then go back and see the movie. It'll make the difference.

No, don't listen to drax. He liked Godzilla and Batman & Robin!

Seriously... the Hook score is a great one. It's very magical. I only wish I could find the damn soundtrack in stores (can't buy online, unfortunately). As for the movie... it's not one of Spielberg's classics, but I found it to be entertaining.
