When did Mark Hamil's name change?

It seems to have changed to Hamill (with two L's) sometime in the last year or so. I remember seeing his name in credits and on IMDB as Hamil, I remember it being kind of unique for only having 1 L. No, I specifically remember it being Hamil with one L, because I thought that made it unique. I am an English Major, and most other instances of that name have been spelled with 2 Ls.

 

I have seen the posters and other evidence, I am just wondering if anyone else has a memory of it being spelled with only 1 L.

Mark's Twitter is @HamillHimself, and since Mark tweets from it and spells his last name with two L's, I assume that's the correct spelling...!
