What do I mean by that?

If you watch AOTC you see that Obi Wan actually stumbles upon Kamino and the Army because of the dart used by Jango to kill Zam. Let's suppose that Zam was successful in killing Padme and there wasn't a reason for Jango to kill her via the dart. When then, was the Republic going to learn of the existance of the clone army on Kamino? Especially if someone erased the files?

The Kaminoans told Obi Wan that Syfo-Dyas said they were for the Republic, not to mention they were expecting a Jedi to come and check on their progress. So, according to Palpatine/Sidious' plan (assuming he is behind it), when were the clones going to be revealed?

The idea of the Jedi stumbling across them just leaves too much to chance.

    Any thoughts?

Zam was set up to fail. There was no way she could get past two Jedi, and Palpatine knew it. So the army was supposed to be discovered just when it did. Of course, if it happened not to be discovered then, Palpatine could always ask Dooku to delay his plans.

Sidious could let the Jedi/Republic know about the clone army whenever he wanted. I guess that Sidious had become confident enough with Dooku's success at fomenting rebellion from the Republic that he thought now was a good time to let a path lead to Kamino.

Remember Sidious' last line in the movie: "Everything is going as planned."

Of course it's more than slightly ridiculous that Sidious' plan is so perfectly diabolical, but that's why Star Wars is so fun.

Even if Zam was set up to fail, there is still the chance that Kamino won't be discovered.

The records were erased for a reason. Had not Obi Wan gone to Dexter to find out about the dart, Kamino's name wouldn't have been brought up.

Besides, if Zam was set up to fail, why erase the location of Kamino? Once Obi Wan identifies where the dart originated from whoever planned this must have known that is where he would go to further his investigation. So if he was supposed to go to Kamino because Zam failed, why hide its location?

Because Kamino needed to remain hidden until Sidious was ready for it to be re-discovered.

For Sidious' plan to work, Kamino needed to remain an absolute secret until (a) enough clones had been produced and (b) there was a great enough threat of war against the Republic.

Granted, the path to Kamino via Zam's failure is tenuous, and had the Jedi not figured it out, then Sidious might have made it more obvious eventually. Sidious always seems to have back-up plans. Fortunately for us, though, Obi Wan is a clever boy, and the Jedi find the clone army relatively quickly.

Also, there's nothing that says the Jedi DID find the army when Sidious wanted. Remember, Zam fails TWICE: what if the Jedi were supposed to find a trail to Kamino at the site of Padme's assassination on the landing platform?

    It's a mystery

    Good point!

But in the end I think, Close enough. If they hadnt found it that day, Sid would make sure they found it soon.
