Those comics were my introduction to the EU when I was about 10 years old.

Real military sabers are a backsword( curved blade single edged) the only sabers that are straight bladed that I have come across are sport sabers(i.e. fencing sabers). Samurai Katana's, Middle Eastern Scimitars, and Chinese Dao's are also sabers by because the meet the definition.

That's strictly based on opinion. To me "lasersword" sounds very primitive/ignorant.

Which I guess was the point. Anakin was just a slave child living on a very remote planet.

Some have solid strands in addition, but going by the article:

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightwhip

they don't have to have them.

There are many backswords with straight single edged blades, and most dress sabers have straight blades, as do many cavalry sabers. If you look long enough, you'll find just about any variation you can imagine on the basic concept of the sword. And if you ask 6 swordsmen what kind of sword is best, you'll get at least a dozen answers.

Thanks for the info Sarge. Never commented about which swords were best though. I know from previous posting you are an experienced swordsmen. I defer to your greater knowledge.
