    Markus Carfax

The cigarra addict nodded at Noir as the Mynyersh emerged from the shadows of the ship's interior. Regretfully, he was followed by Eddie. Markus usually had no problem with all things electronic but he drew the line at droid who stuck their breathing valves in your mouth unprompted. He knew that it was going to keep him awake at night for months.

Taking out his datapad, Markus reviewed the report and clues. Eventually, he came to a descicion and shut the black clamshell with a snap.

"Right. We're going to work through this logically." he told Noir. "That means that we start from the beginning of the crime."

The Mandalorian helmet showed no signs of insight.

"How she got here?" explained Carfax in the tones of someone talking for the hard of understanding. "Which is why we're at the spaceport?"

Giving up, the hacker took out his comlink and dialed up Sounil. He suspected that she'd be in the middle of a candelit interrogation with Jin. What she saw in the shaved wookiee Feth knew.

"Alright, luv?" he coughed. "We're at the spaceport if you need us. Suggest a rendezvous after this?"

At Jin's prompt, she asked for anything cold, then her wristcom whistled for attention. It was Markus, coughing a greeting.

"Alright, luv. We're at the spaceport if you need us. Suggest a rendezvous after this?"

"Copy that." She responded, sighing. "No further clues this end. I'm inclined to leave Commenor as soon as possible. The trail here is colder than a Whiphid's tit. We'll get a hover-taxi out to the 'port as soon as we finish up here."

"Sure thing. See you outside the Command Centre, darlin'. And put Jin down, you don't know where he's been." Markus grinned, imagining the pair's reactions. "Carfax out."

Stowing the comlink somewhere in the rancid depths of his trenchcoat, the hacker squinted at the skyline. The spaceport showed a tendency to low buildings, avoiding the flightpath of spaceships and shuttles. Small hab-blocks and office towers sat like burnt out cigarra ends outlined in black against the darkening sky. Floodlights illuminated important buildings- the hospital, Ship Exchange, pilot academy... Command Centre. Slapping down a handful of coins of uncertain denomination down before the snoozing parking attendant (His name label read 'Bob'), Carfax headed into the busy spaceport at a sort of fast slouch, leaving Noir to follow on.

'Bring in your muscle...that's how your protect yourself, by having this thing stand up for you?'

Kelly knew he had crossed a line, and thier mission was in serious jepordy, but this was in his nature. He thought highly of himself, and didn't like being put down. And he expecially didn't liked being talked down to by a wookie.

Varks' pleasant musings were abruptly brought to a halt when a finger appeared in front of his eyes. A head and a piercing glare quickly followed. Kelly spat back at him that he was a known criminal leader and before the Twi'lek could get anything in, the furry form of his friend was at his side, barking a threat to the bearded man. Varks let a smile register on his face when he saw the Wookiee. You do the intimidating, I'll do the talking.

Kelly responded to Ekoth's rumblings, further, unnecessarily Varks added in thought, goading them on.

"As you can see, Kelly," Varks purred his words. "Muscles, as you say, can be quite useful." He casually looked up at the towering Wookiee. "In situations...." He waved a hand nonchalantly. "Oh, perhaps like these?" He grinned.

"He just warned you," the Twi'lek continued in translation for Ekoth. "You might be missing bodily parts when you next wake up if you don't calm down." His eyes hardened. "You may be more of a high roller in criminal activities then us, but that doesn't mean you're in charge here. If you don't like Wookiees," Varks raised an eyebrow. "Tell him. Get on some even ground, I can bet there are things that Ekoth's people don't like in you, stinking, humans."

Varks put his hands behind his back, fingering his cape as he eyed Kelly. "For now, we have one goal. We are looking for Carmen Sandiego and to do that, we are going to a criminal research bureau. Either come, or don't. I will not turn you in if you don't have the courage to stay with us." He put emphasis on his words.

"Criminal leaders. You never deal in the real stuff. Can't even walk into a law office." Varks muttered mockingly under his breath. "Wonder if you'd even help someone that was jailed in one...."

    GM Update

After having a long think about the feedback some of you have given me, I've decided to take this RPG in a fresh direction. I was going to be all ceremonious about it, but I figured that doing so would just invite some of Sith-I-5's trademark sarcasm ( :p ), so I'll simply tell you what's changing and we can all get on with RPing.

(Note: FlamingBladeSaber seems to have vanished of late, so unless I post otherwise, I'll be the sole GM for now.)

    What is changing:

I'm ditching the pre-written clue system that I've been using so far to structure the hunt for Carmen. Instead, I will be responding to players based on their line of investigation (i.e. things are now flexible).

Team play and the bold magenta clues remain the same.

    What this means for you:

Hopefully, this change in approach will result in a more interesting game that scales intelligibly to all sorts of different players. On a technical note, on-the-fly clue generation means that you no longer have to visit just the locations/people that I specified for clues. Any approach to investigation will be allowed and will be rewarded based on whether or not I think it is logical/interesting/amusing/cool/any other criteria I feel like using.

Important information will still be coded in bold magenta text. Instead of being the only information that you can use, this just means that the info in question is important. You can get such 'clues' from anywhere, but if you'd like a place to start, feel free to use the pre-generated list I included at the end of the first post.

That should be it. Have fun. Be random. Enjoy.

Warning: I may or may not occasionally invent hostile things to attack you. Feel free to kill or capture these in any way you wish.

    [i]Somewhere you are not[/i]

[blockquote]Flecks of orange sunlight streamed into the expansive sun room as Carmen Sandiego toyed playfully with the controls of a large holoprojector. Sitting carelessly a few feet away, the unit in question flaunted its plethora of features by doing absolutely nothing. Off in the distance, something hooted and the faint sound of waves could be heard breaking against sand. Carmen stood leisurely before the projector, bracketed by two vweliu trees that grew just beyond the patio outside. As the late afternoon breeze began to tinkle an unseen wind chime, she finally smirked and flipped the device on. Selecting a clear band transmission, the legendary thief began to brag to the galaxy at large.

"To the pudgy Baron and all the fools out there trying to catch me - I am your mythical thief. Let me give you a tip - you're looking for the wrong thing. So grovel with the past if you want, for the fire within is mine and all that is legend with it." Carmen dipped her red fedora with a roguish air and proceeded to chant. "Oh where, oh were in past long a-go, shall mortals find fair Sandiego?" As the last syllable faded, she winked and killed the connection.[/blockquote][b]Tag: All[/b]

[blockquote][i]There has been an extraordinary development in the Sandiego Theft tonight, as holonet receivers across the core intercepted a clear band transmission that appeared to come from the legendary thief herself. Taunting investigators, Sandiego confirmed she was responsible for stealing the Mardox gem stash, but claimed that authorities were following false leads. There has been no official comment yet on whether the transmission is real, but analysts are said to be examining the broadcast to determine its evidentiary value.

Outraged at the transmission's audacity, Baron Mardox has offered an additional one hundred thousand credits for Sandiego's head. Depo Delpa, a spokesbeing for the Commenor Port Authority, has confirmed to the media this evening that importing such an item would be illegal.

While the actual legitimacy of Sandiego's transmission officially remains in question, public interest in the affair has spiked, with over

The bearded human paused, and Varks hoped, thought about the predicament he had gotten himself into. He finally mumbled that they should head to the bureau and stop wasting time. At least he knows when to back down....

Before Varks said anything further, a hologram shot to life inside the bright red store. The Twi'lek swirled around to face it and was surprised to see another red figure talking. He was silent as he carefully listened and watched the legendary thief taunt the Baron on all hunting her. He noted that she appeared to be in a relaxed place, very calm and peaceful. Your first mistake....

He continued to watch the hologram as a breaking Holonews announcement was shown directly after. We must quickly continue with our investigation, because... because we must. We must have a toast of victory!

"And we should be desperate to find her." Varks spoke to his two companions in response to Kelly. "I see you have now come to your senses, so we should move on. Ekoth," the Twi'lek turned to his friend. "If you will be so kind...?" He motioned out the door, indicating that they should now head to the criminal research bureau.

Bar, Grand Conference Room, Air and Darkness Casino, Commenor

The whole room seemed to simmer with distrust as Redreh Fren glanced awkwardly about, trying to gauge intent of the beings around him. That Fren was a massive, blocky Herglic did little to dampen the stares of those he scanned and a warm wash of irrational paranoia began to lap at his somewhat addled brain.

If they look, they must be confident, which means that I should not be confident - but then I started the looking so my confidence makes their looks fear, so if I... Wait, that's not right.

Shaking his head in an attempt to think clearly, the Herglic stepped back into a serving droid, buckling it with the impact. A distorted wail escaped the unit's vocabulator as it crashed to the ground, spilling drinks everywhere. Fren jumped at the noise and glanced fearfully towards the bar. What he saw invoked a chain of reasoning that involved just one word.

    Jin!

An intense hatred wallowed onto Fren's face as he tried jumping to conclusions, failed, and settled on anger instead. "You!" he bellowed, pointing at the gladiator. "This is all your fault." Tapping two Rodians on the head, he marched towards the bar, gesticulating wildly in the vague direction of the crushed serving droid.

"My prior look makes your first look cowardly to my latter look...uh.." Fren glanced down as one of the Rodians next to him buzzed briefly. "Ah yes, prepare to die."

    Commenor Bar

Jin listened to Sounil converse with that nerf herder Carfax. Apparently she wanted to get off planet, something about the the clues running dry here... to that Jin could only agree. He couldn't help but feel that he had been sent on a fool's errand... the bartender didn't know anything and, the atmoshphere of the bar was hostile in the extreme... mainly due to the fact that many of the thugs gathered hated him.

He had to smirk into his drink at that. He was infamous for taking down a number of crimebosses and other miscreants, all bounties of the legal kind. In the end his choice of prey had made him perhaps the most loathed bounty hunter this side of the famous Durge. Now that would be a worthy contest... he was said to be a Jedi Killer and Jin found that, noteworthy.

Pulling himself from his reverie he cast yet another glance about the bar surrounded by a host of sentients who'd love to give him a Vibroblade in the guts. Most were fearful of him, the others were fearful of the legal implacations that attacking him would entail. Ten he caught a glimpse of a truly dangerous being. A huge blue skinned Heglic by the name of... Fren.

An intense hatred wallowed onto Fren's face, Jin could almost see the cogs working in the aliens dim mind. "You!" he bellowed, pointing at the gladiator. "This is all your fault." Tapping two Rodians on the head, he marched towards the bar, gesticulating wildly in the vague direction of the crushed serving droid.

Apparently he had done something to offend Fren, the unfortunate thing was that he couldn't remember exactly what it had been. A sure sign that he was entirely to good at making enemies. He decided to play it cool for the moment.

"My prior look makes your first look cowardly to my latter look...uh.." Fren glanced down as one of the Rodians next to him buzzed briefly. "Ah yes, prepare to die." Mentally Jin rolled his eyes, Fren had never been the sharpest.

"Ah, Fren how are you doing? Its been a long time, yeah?" he said in a disarming tone that made it hard to believe that there would be violence. He threw the gorgeous Twi'Lek a glance.

"This'll just take a moment honey, then we can get back to business." he said with a sensuous smile playing across his face. He wanted to keep Sounil as a wildcard. Then he moved in the opposite direction of the detective, bringing all of the focus onto him.

His hands unobtrusively hovered over his belt ready to draw his instruments of death at any moment. He preferred melee combat, in his mind it was more honorable and less messy, few in the galaxy shared his opinion. So he was ready for anything.

His stance was easy and balanced. Despite the look on his face that was of camradarie, the look in his eyes spoke of cold violence awaiting to be unleashed. He stared into into the eyes of Fren... attempting to scare him away. If the dumb lumox didn't take the hint... then Sounil would get a free demonstration.

The tension between the three finally calmed down after some fast talking by Varks and Kelly putting his ego aside they were able to get back to business. Ekoth wasn't to happy about the beared man calling him a thing but he didn't want to waste any time. Maybe after it was all done, Ekoth would give the human a piece of his mind, and muscle but for now all of his focus was on catching Carmen Sandiego.

Then all their attention turned to a holocast, which featured none other than the thief herself, Carmen Sandiego. She stood among vweilu tree's which Ekoth recongized, they were some of his favorites to climb on. Carmen continued to mock the entire galaxy by broadcasting the message as she knew she was the most wanted criminal in the galaxy. Ekoth couldn't stand her already, she seemed very full of herself and compeletely annoying. If they ever caught her, he'd be sure to put something in her mouth to keep her quiet.

"Extra 100 thousand? Man...this guy is desperate. Kelly's voice piped up which drew Ekoth from his daze.

He had been standing their watching the thief speak, then thought about gaging her to stop her from talking and finally relized he was rubbing his belly again putting all of his troubles away. It was a very bad habit but it felt so good that he could never stop. But Kelly confirming that the man who wanted Sandiego's head was offering another 100 thousand credits for whomever catches. Ekoth smiled as he thought about it over in his head.

Yes, that could buy many rancor fritters.

Then Varks was heard saying that they should head for the criminal research bureau right away. The furry beat shook his head to gather his sense back. He hoped Kelly would learn his lesson and not mess with either of the two as it was not a good idea. They neede all three of them to put their minds together to catch the thief, she was a sliperly one. Ekoth turned to Varks.

[Flag down a cab,] Ekoth told him. [Human's don't seem to like species that are superior to them.] He let out a laugh.

He paused, letting the moment hang in the air. He then broke out in a heartfelt laugh as he knocked a hand against the hairy beasts shoulder. "Gotcha!" His laugh died down, leaving a smile remaining on his face. "I understand what you mean, I only hope we don't get another Sullustan like we did previously," he added as his mind remembered their last trip. Man, that old chatterbox needed to go fishing on Yavin.

Varks turned to Kelly as he realised that the poor man wouldn't know what the joke was. He stated calmly, "We shall catch a cab now. We were just discussing..." He couldn't stop the sly smile reappearing. "Who would have the honour of doing it."

The garishly ruby coloured store filled with Varks' laughter before fading away as the Twi'lek walked out the door.

They headed off to the main street where lines of hovertaxis were available for offer. Varks spotted a lone vehicle that was slightly the worse for wear. What caught his eye, however, was the female being standing beside it.

"Ekoth, look there. We should take that taxi, it would mean you could give directions to her without needing me to translate." The Twi'lek lifted a hand in the direction were he was looking, indicating the hairy Wookiee by her hovertaxi.

The Rodians were an unknown quantity, she felt, but this Fren character, with him, she felt a slap across the face with a glove would be enough to put him down.

She was tempted to turn her back on him, and chat to the barman, but until the Rodians showed their hand, she did not dare.

    IC as Jin

    Bar, Commenor

    "Uh...has it?"

All around, bounty hunters, investigators and bar patrons turned towards the commotion. The big Herglic attempted to glance at everyone simultaneously in a manner that seemed like he was trying to unscrew his head.

What a fracking moron! Jin thought amusedly. Speaking to Fren was like trying to have conversation with a particularly dull Gammorean. 'Cept that Gammoreans had a better sense of humor and didn't smell as bad.

Shifting around to face his target, Fren brought his armoured hands up into fists, all the while trying to remember why he hated Jin. "Well I'll tell you something - you're looking..." there was a buzz beside him, "...smaller than me." Fren emphasised this last word by swinging his massively muscled arm into a droid that had ventured too close, sending the unit flying a half dozen metres backwards. "Cowards must die," he added after failing to recall a more specific grievance.

Coward... the word burned him as if it were the twin suns of Tattooine. For a long moment see saw red, his own powerful muscles tigthening, some primal part of his soul screaming at him to draw his blasters an end this miserable wretches life. Yet he did nothing as he allowed his rage to become focused. To attack first may not be the best legal course of action.

Thusly he moved slightly bringing a now vacant stool between himself and Fren and the Rodians. "You done talking yet Gizka for brains? Are all Fren as ugly as you...or did you get it from your mother?" His voice was now filled with unabashed hatred that was both cold and dangerous, how dare this scum call me a coward? The sound of his angered voice had been enough to make grown men pee their pants. He gave the Rodians a quick sneer, Hunters indeed he'd show them what it meant to be hunted.

His muscles now relaxed he kept a shoulder width base ready for anything. Now he wouldn't be appeased 'til this Fren was a corpse left for the carrion birds. Fren had no idea that he had just signed his own death warrant.

Varks pointed out a nicely sized hovertaxi, unoccupied on main street, with a female wookiee standing near it. Now the hovertaxi wasn't in the best shape possible but it was great as Ekoth would be able to give her directions without have to hassle Varks for the translation. He knew it bothered the twi'lek some times with him having to translate his word as most beings were not familar with shyriiwook but their wasn't the big hairy beast could do about it. This was who he was and he wouldn't change it for the world.

The female wookiee wasn't the best looking thing Ekoth had ever seen but maybe, just maybe, he thought he might be able to sweet talk her into doing this for free. Ekoth was by no means a ladies man but he had some things up his sleeve that worked on occasion to make the females of Kashyyyk blush.

Ekoth lead the way up to the hovertaxi while Varks followed rubbing his lekku and Kelly his beard. The two stood back a distance to let Ekoth talke to his fellow wookiee. He was heard by Kelly and varks talking in their native tounge.

"Yaag ruggwah maw huah huah?[How do you keep your fur shining that way?]" Ekoth asked her. The female smiled and looked down at the ground showing a sign of embarressment.

"Waag ruh Ekoth."[I'm Ekoth.] The big lugged told her. "Waa ahyeg aga?"[What's your name?"

"Mu na ya?"[Where to?] She asked him. It wasn't the reply Ekoth was looking for but she didn't look all that friendly. Maybe she needed the right person to speak to her to open her up a bit.

"Gu waaga ahawag mu."[To the criminal research bureau.] Ekoth said. "Yu gawanha mugera?[Do you know where it is?" The female nodded her head and walked around the hovertaxi and got in.

Ekoth walked back over to Varks and Kelly who looked on in amazement seeing the two speak their native tounge to each other.

[She says she will take us.] He told the two and waved a hand to follow him over to the taxi. Ekoth got in the passenger seat which was more than enough room to accomdate a wookie of his stature, with Varks and Kelly getting into the back. Ekoth gave out a big sigh of relief as he was able to strech out his long arms and limbs without getting into anyones way. This taxi was very comforatable for him, and it should of been the same for the two in the back, or he figured they would be fine. He didn't really know how they were doing back their, he was too focused on getting this female wookiee to talk. It was a challenge for Ekoth, something he liked to do.

"Uwana aga huwaga."[You neve did tell me how you shine so beautifuly.] Ekoth said turning to her while she drove off, making a u-turn to head to the bureau.

"Waag mam ga moo. "[A female never divulges her secrets.] She smiled to him as she said it.

"oyaarg aga huwaga?"[Well maybe I would have to find out directly from you, if you don't mind.] She gave a slight smile and kept driving. She was very quick, and knew her way around commenor. Ekoth was glad he didn't have to give her directions as he didn't know where it was exactly, he just knew there was on her. The hovertaxi weaved in and out of traffic, finally arriving at the stop right outside the research bureau.

"Ur uh."[Here you are.] She told him shutting off the computer which tallied up the credit amount owed.

"Wugaga hu uwamma Woohiee wa-ah?"[You never did give me an answer, so what will it be?] Ekoth asked her.

"Yu guawah mah oowhama."[Take this and call me later.] She handed him a card with a number on it. "Huaah maw wuwu agah."[Don't worry about the fee, just repay me later.] She smiled and Ekoth did the same back before exited the taxiing. Varks and Kelly already left and he walked over to them as they stood in front of the doors to the bureau.

I would love to meet up with Varks, Ekoth and Kelly, but I just left the planet, I'm sure we will run into eachother eventualy. As for the Mon Cals, they started as a joke based on the show, now I'm just giving them a lift, feel free to run them as NPC's if you like, or I'll just periodicaly run into them.
