    My fifty yen:

Star Wars, to me, is not really about the movies. I mean, yeah, they're the uber-canon and all, but without the EU, my interest wanes quickly. So naturally, when it comes to my gaming, I'm the same way--Rogue Squadron, Jedi Knight II, you get the idea.
Besides, I played the AotC GBA game. Or should I say sat through one minute of it before getting rid of it altogether?

    >>Actually, does Rebel Strike not also include a Bespin level for Luke?<<

There is a flight level for Bespin where you play as the Falcon, but I've not heard of a Luke level, unless it's a super-hidden bonus stage like Revenge on Yavin or Endurance.

    >>SOTE wasn't a game based on a story, it was a seperate set of chapters to a story, thus using Luke, etc would have been redundant.

    >>so this means that rebel strike is rebundant..<<

No, I'm saying that the SOTE game's role within the SOTE storyline and multimedia project was designed to not be about Luke, thus any elements with him in it would be representations of material in the book or comic and thus be redundant since the game wasn't supposed to cover the same ground from the same perspective as the main characters.

    >>look..lucasarts had a poll last year before they decided to make rebel strike..they asked who would you rather see in a video game....people wanted to see the main characters, solo, luke, leia..obiwan..etc. all the other EU charasters were left in the dust..and this is why in rebel strike you get to play them all.<<

Well, of course the main characters will get a higher polling- they're the most well know. Everyone knows who they are. People who don't do PC gaming wouldn't be familiar with the Dark Forces and JK games. People who don't have PS2 aren't familar with the Starfighter series. Rogue Squadron 1 and 2 didn't have much of a story since half the game was based on the films, so there wasn't much to get attached to. Etc.

    >>but if you look at the most succesful star wars games in history..they are all based on the movies..<<

    >>not succesfull games? well SOTE..dark forces..jedi starfighter...both of them!!<<

You're mistaken. Not taking into account the early arcade and SNES titles, the biggest selling SW games by far has been the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, the X-Wing/TIE Fighter sims, and the Rogue Squadron series (the first two which have only a couple "movie levels" in them anyways).

Additionally, SOTE was a good seller as it was one of the bigger launch titles for N64, and the same goes for Starfighter on the PS2 (as I recall, Starfighter made it into Sony's equivilent to Nintendo's "Player's Choice" reissues, whatever it's called).

And the worst selling titles? The Phantom Menace, SW Racer and Attack of the Clones. (followed by Rebellion and Force Commander most likely)

    >>clone wars bombed. and bounty hunter did ok..<<

BH may have done ok, but Clone Wars certainly did better than BH- especially given that it was accessible by all three major platforms.

    >>rebel strike will be a big seller..because it uses a good combination of movie themes..thats why!!<<

But there will only be 3 movie levels + 2 movie bonus levels in the game (Hoth, Bespin, Endor) while the majority will still be EU, focusing on Wedge, Tycho, etc (Tatooine, Yavin Base, Dantooine, Ralltiir, Bakura, Fondor, Geonosis, etc) and that's not counting whatever bonus missions or other levels we don't know about yet.

    >>and thats what im asking for..is that too much?<<

Well, you get some in Rebel Strike, but you can't expect them to keep churning out movie adaptation games- afterall, THE number one complaint about the Rogue Squadron series was that it kept rechurning out scenes from the movie like Hoth over and over. Even the Death Star trench run has been so over-done that they're not doing it again.

    >>Also, Jedi Starfighter is hardly EU. Most of it is directly linked to the movies<<

I'll have to disagree there- Jedi Starfighter, much like the original Starfighter, is primarily an EU storyline focusing on Nym, a Naboo pilot or Adi Gallia. It isn't until the last two levels or so that the game crosses over into the events of the movie (Battles of Naboo and Geonosis), and like that, it's no different than The Clone Wars game, only in reverse- the movie level being the first level instead of the last.

I will advocate for Rabid_Balding_Ewok: The Rogue Squadron series is one colossal MEH! Rebel Strike is just a rehash. Not just of the movies, but of the movies, previous games made around the movies and of the two previous Rogue Squadron games.

You know, the series is called Rogue Squadron. Why the hell doesn't it involve elements of the novels and comics?? Does LucasArts seriously think people wouldn't care to play the game if it involves Wedge, Tycho, Corran and the rest? They've made many games around the EU and people have played them anyway. The first few novels offer tons of prrospective gaming material, what with the battles fought on the road towards the liberation of Coruscant and the part the Rogues played in that.

Think about it, a Rogue Squadron mission where you fly through the immensely crowded urban landscape of Coruscant, destroying ground targets while avoiding ground defenses, the usual insane civilian traffic and all the TIE's Coruscant could harbor. GIMME THAT! Don't give me yet another rehash of the battle of Yavin (and all the battles of Yavin I've played are more or less copied from 80's SW Arcade game, right down to the obstacle filled trench run). Yeah, it'd be EU, but I don't care. I've seen the movies to death, so I'm open to other SW stuff for gaming purposes.

the best atari hits where based on movies..ET

You obviously don't know your video game history, Homeless, but you've lost all seriousness and credibility by advocating one of Atari's biggest disasters, not to mention one of the worst video games ever made. [face_plain]

Finally, someone agrees with me on the Rogue Squadron series. I mean seriously, the first one was okay (but still pales in comparison in terms of gameplay to the X-Wing series), but the 2nd one was just a plotless rehash of the original. And Rebel Strike...how many ******* times are you people gonna play Hoth and Yavin before it gets old!?

There is no battle of Yavin level this time- though there is a level on Yavin IV itself.

It's all Star Wars. You visit a lot of classic locations in the Jedi Knight games, for example. Tatooine, Hoth, Ord Mantell, Coruscant, and Yavin 4.

Which Jedi Knight game can you go to these locales??

It's hard to make a game about two lousy actors trying look like they are falling in love in a CGI world.

Not necessarily. It COULD be done, but LFL just doesn't seem to be interested, not when they can spin each particular action sequence off into its' own game. :(

How would an AOTC video game go? Hmm....

Opening cutscene: (from film) Opening crawl, the cruiser lands and blows up, Corde dies.

    LEVEL 1: CORUSCANT (REVISITED)
Play as: Captain Typho or Artoo-Detoo
Description: Remember the TPM PC level with Captain Panaka? Same deal -- get Padme from the landing platform to the Senate. This time the bad guys are bounty hunters/assassins/thugs lining up for THEIR shot at the huge price on Padme's head.

Cutscene #2: (from film) Condensed version of film scenes establishing Obi-Wan/Anakin as Padme's bodyguards, Jango gives Zam the kouhuns, Zam's attack on Padme at the apartment.

    LEVEL 2: SENATE APARTMENT BUILDING
    Play as: Anakin
Description: Get from Padme's apartment down several DOZEN floors to the speeder parking lot. Your efforts are hampered by thugs making their own raid on the building to try to get at Padme. You're on a timer -- if you're not in that speeder in five (or so) minutes, Obi-Wan's in for a very long fall...

LEVEL 3: THE CHASE THROUGH CORUSCANT
Play as: Anakin/Obi-Wan (in the speeder)
Description: Combine Spider-Man: The Movie's air combat level with Starsky & Hutch's dual driving/shooting system, and you've got this level. Zam'll be the one shooting, Obi-Wan's gotta send those bolts back via his lightsaber while Anakin drives.

LEVEL 4: CORUSCANT BY DAY, HELL BY NIGHT
    Play as: Anakin (minus lightsaber)
After a brief (game engine) cutscene shows the speeder crash, Anakin races through the packed streets after Zam. Since he's weaponless, he'll have to rely on his wits (and maybe a little Force choking) to deal with various puzzles to get to the Outlander Club.

Cutscene #3: (from film) Jedi grab Zam, Zam gets silenced by Jango. Jedi Council orders Anakin/Padme to Naboo, Obi-Wan assigned to find killer. Obi-Wan sees Anakin/Padme off. (I should note here that you can skip all these cutscenes by hitting the X button.)

    LEVEL 5: OBI-WAN'S INVESTIGATION
    Play as: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Description: This is more of an RPG level (like Mos Espa in TPM PC or any level in KOTOR) to show off the Jedi Temple and provide insight as to how the Jedi work. While going back and forth through the Temple to pick up clues, Obi-Wan does favors for various Jedi and/or civilian visitors. Obi-Wan's visit to Dexter Jettster is shown in a quick game engine cutscene.

Cutscene #4: (from film) Obi-Wan takes off from Coruscant, Anakin/Padme have their chat in the refugee ship, followed by the ship landing on Naboo.

    LEVEL 6: ARRIVAL ON NABOO
    Play as: Anakin or Artoo
Description: Why did Anakin and Padme ditch their peasant disguises almost as soon as they landed on Naboo? This level has the answer, as still more thugs accost our two lovebirds at the spaceport. Anakin's gotta keep himself, Padme and Artoo alive long enough to take out all the thugs and catch an airspeeder to the palace.

    More coming...

Cutscene #5: (from film) Now we hit the boring middle part of the film. Basically a vastly shortened (and hopefully improved) collection of the Anakin/Padme romance scenes set to "Across the Stars." More likely the X button's gonna see a lot of use here.

LEVEL 7: THE SECRET OF KAMINO
    Play as: Obi-Wan
Description: Hoo boy...we need to do SOMETHING here, the setup's too good not to...another RPG level, I guess, something that combines Obi-Wan's tour of the clone facility with some action and puzzles. Maybe Lama Su invites Obi-Wan to "try out" the clones in a mock battle/obstacle course (possibly to convince the Prime Minister that Obi-Wan is really a Jedi and not some saboteur from a competitor -- isolation breeds paranoia, y'know).

    LEVEL 8: ANAKIN'S NIGHTMARE
    Play as: Anakin
    Description: Max Payne. 'Nuff said.

Cutscene #6: (from the film) Anakin decides to head for Tatooine, Obi-Wan calls home, Mace and Yoda discuss what wusses the Jedi have become.

LEVEL 9: BOUNTY HUNTER'S BIG ESCAPE
    Play as: Obi-Wan
Description: Quite simply, survive! Dodge Slave I's arsenal and try to wear Jango Fett down to the point he gives up trying to kill you and jumps in his ship instead.

Cutscene #7: (from the film) The Tatooine sequence up to Anakin zooming off in the swoop.

    LEVEL 10: THE ASTEROID CHASE
Play as: Obi-Wan (in the Jedi starfighter)
    Description: Ain't it obvious?

LEVEL 11: THE FUSE IS LIT
    Play as: Obi-Wan
Description: Make your way from the landed Starfighter into the droid foundry, dealing with Geonosians, massiffs and other local dangers along the way.

Cutscene #8: (from the film) Dooku and the heads of Disney, Microsoft and Exxon talk treason. The death of Shmi Skywalker.

LEVEL 12: REVENGE OF THE SON
    Play as: Anakin
Description: KILL 'EM ALL!! Unleash the Dark Side on those Tusken bastards!! Bonus points and power ups for demolishing huts and hacking up women and kids! Leave nothing (and no one) standing!

    LEVEL 13: HARBINGER OF DOOM
    Play as: Obi-Wan
Description: Get back from the droid foundry to the Jedi Starfighter to alert the Jedi Council to imminent war. The Geonosians are on to you now, so the opposition will be intense!

Cutscene #9: (from the film) Anakin's confession, Shmi's funeral, Obi-Wan is captured.

LEVEL 14: ON THE CONVEYOR BELT
Play as: Anakin, Padme or Artoo
Description: Just what the title says. Neat thing here is, the level itself plays totally different for each of the three characters, so you'll want to play it three times!

Cutscene #10: (from the film) Jar-Jar fulfills his destiny. Padme confesses her love to Anakin.

LEVEL 15: THE ARENA (PART ONE)
Play as: Anakin, Obi-Wan or Padme
Description: Big three-way boss battle! Again, you face a different monster for each character you choose -- the Acklay for Obi-Wan, the Reek for Anakin and the Nexu for Padme. But this time (as in KOTOR) you're controlling all three simultaneously -- it's gonna be a juggling act to keep them alive and defeat all three monsters!

LEVEL 16: THE ARENA (PART TWO)
Play as: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padme or Mace Windu
Description: The battle droid ambush, realized in The Two Towers fashion. Now you can finally get the Obi-Wan/Jango rematch you wanted!

LEVEL 17: THE ARENA (PART THREE)
    Play as: Anakin or Obi-Wan
Description: Attack of the Clones! Four gunships have landed in the center of the arena. You have to escort 15 Jedi (5 a piece) through the droid/clone free-for-all to a gunship, holding off attacking droids long enough for them to board safely. Then get yourself to the fourth gunship (with Padme aboard) in one piece!

    I'll finish it next post...

LEVEL 18: BEGUN, THE CLONE WARS HAVE (PART ONE)
    Play as: Republic Gunship
Description: Pretty much like it was realized in the Clone Wars console game.

LEVEL 19: BEGUN, THE CLONE WARS HAVE (PART TWO)
Play as: Mace Windu or Clone Trooper
Description: From the battle in the air to the battle on the ground.

Cutscene #11: Padme takes a fall (literally), Anakin and Obi-Wan have it out, then they head into the hangar.

LEVEL 20: SHOWDOWN WITH COUNT DOOKU
Play as: Count Dooku (first two parts), Yoda (third part)
Description: Okay, we both know Obi-Wan and Anakin aren't gonna beat Dooku here. So, to make it more interesting, YOU play the bad guy and take on the two Jedi irritants instead! And, after they're done, you switch to Yoda and beat yourself up! (Weird.)

Cutscene #12: The last five minutes of the film.

Well, what do you all think? Would you want to shell out $50.00 for something like that?

    *Ponders*

No. Especially when the battle of Geonosis has been covered from different perspectives in three different SW games already (Jedi Starfighter, Clone Wars and Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns).

However, I'll admit that the rage-induced Tusken slaughter sounds like fun. ;)

Your opinion on games is your opinion, but the vast majority of games disagree with you about The Clone Wars and Jedi Starfighter.

I wouldn't particularly like that game either, but your work is appreciated nonetheless, Nightowl.

Getting bonus points for killing women and children is too Grand Theft Auto-ish for me, and would bring the ire of George Lucas, the media, and basically the whole planet down on its head.

The main problem with that is that there is more than one genre in there.

It's difficult to combine flying sections with ground combat sections. Especially when you want to have the ground sections as good as Jedi Academy and the flying sections like Rogue Squadron or the X-Wing games.

Although saying that, Rebel Strike and to an extent Jedi Academy are closing in on it. Rebel Strike with it's on foot missions and Academy with the extra vehicles that were left in by Raven for multiplayer use.

Ah, but wait -- there's more! I haven't gotten into the extras yet!! :D

After all, we want people to keep playing this over and over again! So we have extras they can unlock over the course of the game such as...ummm....

If you beat the game at Youngling (easy) level, you unlock:

-- Concept artwork for each level
-- Trailer for The Clone Wars cartoon DVD

Beat it at Padawan Learner (medium) level, and you get the above PLUS:

-- "What If" mode - All the characters and vehicles are replaced with alternate versions of themselves (based on unused concept artwork)
-- From the LFL vaults, the original animatics of most of the action sequences!

Beat it at Jedi Knight (hard) level, and you get in addition to the above:

-- Five deleted scenes from the film NOT included on the AOTC DVD! They are Scene 14-15 (Mace and Yoda's hallway talk), Scene 47 (Extended Jedi Library scene), Scene 57 & 59 (Anakin talks with Padme's father), Scene 108-109 (Padme shares her worries with Threepio) and Scene 125 (Padme and Beru's kitchen talk)

Beat it at Jedi Master (very hard) level, and...well, you'll just have to find out for yourself, won't you?

It seems odd no one mentioned Battle for Naboo. For me, this was the ultimate Rogue Squadron Game. It had all the elements that make Rogue Squadron great, but it had a different take on the story line of TPM, rather the the usual Rogue Squadron Rehash. In fact, the game made me like TPM alot more, since it gave a pretty harsh view of what was going on on Naboo.

On a side note, I like how Anikan still destroys the Droid Control Ship in this game. Starfighter confused the hell out of my with Rys Dallow accidentaly blowing it up at the same time.
