I've already read most of the EU but my friend wants to get into it.

I told him to start at the Thrawn trilogy or Truce at Bakura.

Where would you say he should start?

The Thrawn Trilogy. Truce At Bakura isn't real good.

I brought my Uncle into the EU by recommending I, Jedi. Other than that, the Corellian Trilogy and Courtship of Princess Leia might be some good suggestions.

I started on the Thrawn trilo and I never finished it, although I did like it and it seemed to be a good intro into the EU.

My problem was that I already have about 10 books on my to read list and they are taking priority, hopefully I will be able to go back and finish the Thrawn series.

thrawn trilogy and then perhaps the X-wing books, they give you a good background to the New Republic.

shadows of the empire is a good place to start too.
