yeah that's why it's a question worth asking

on one hand, Alpha-17 is the badass forgotten Jango clone

on the other, he was almost Rex

I suspect that @CT-867-5309 feels we all dodged a bullet there

 

Lucas was always weird with names. Like changing Alpha to Rex and changing Korriban to Morriban because he thought Korriban sounded to much like Coruscant.

 

Tatooine and Dantooine - no problem

 

Wasn’t it also his directive to kill off Anakin Solo, simply because he didn’t want another Anakin?

Originally, Anakin was to have been the philosophical character while Jacen was the traditional hero. Anakin Solo was the subject of a lightbringer prophecy, but since Jacen was the traditional hero he was believed to be this by the ur-Sith, and targeted and killed.

Lucas didn't want Sith villains or a prophesied Anakin to be the one to defeat them.

yeah that same outline had Jacen killed instead of Anakin because the ur-Sith feared the lightbringer prophecy and believed it was Jacen because he had Anakin's characterization, and vice-versa

it's not really accurate to say "Del Rey or whoever wanted to kill Anakin" because that storyline was written when it was Jacen being killed

the characterizations were swapped after the directive from Lucas

In the event that Anakin didn't die, he would have been the one cutting himself off from the Force in Balance Point, or trained by Vergere. Re-read the series and cross off Jacen and write Anakin and vice-versa and you get the idea.

 

Ben is the only reason they know each other, and they watched him give his life to save theirs. That's more than reason.

Alpha-17 will always be better than Rex. Rex was such a godd@mn goody-two-shoes. Alpha-17 was what an actual "perfect" soldier would probably be like. And he was a snarky bad@ss.

 

Alpha 17 was pretty much Dash Rendar and Boba Fett mixed
