Which did you like better, Empire or Jedi?

I liked Empire Strikes Back better.

 

Empire because it is.

 

I agree with the critic who wrote that ROTJ is a "paint-by-numbers" sequel. It has funny and poignant moments; not least the "road creature" on Tatooine and the face-to-face meeting of father and son.

ESB is textured: It's the point in life when youthful idealism runs up against a powerful, clever, and largely impersonal institution (or person). Added to this is one generation is passing away.

Empire. Followed by anh!!

 

I lost track of the exact numbers, but ESB seems to be running a good lead.

My rankings:

ESB
ANH
AOTC/ROTJ -- pretty much a dead heat for me
TPM -- which wasn't exactly awful, but is in tough company.

 

I've gotta give the edge to Empire. ROTJ's Vader/Luke duel is better than their duel in ESB, and Luke is really cool as a mellowed-out Jedi, but the Ewoks never cease to annoy the crap out of me. And I can't help but laugh like crazy whenever Yoda says, "LOOKING?? Found someone you have, I would say!"

Both are better than ANH, though (IMO).

 

Jedi. ESB has always been too dark for me. And I like Ewoks...

 

Jedi mainly because of the last third of the movie- as said before. The first third is pretty good too. The last 20 minutes are in my opinion, the greatest 20 minutes of a movie ever. The duel between father and son, the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, the death of the Emperor, and the burning of Vader- The score is incredible also...

 

Empire is a more solid movie with more solid story-telling than Jedi. Jedi, while fun and one of the best effects movies, suffers from the lameness which is Luke's plan to rescue Han. I never ceased to be amazed at how stupid and lucky Luke was.

He's good, very good!

It worked better than Mace's plan in AOTC.

Seeing the future have some advantages.

Empire is still a better movie.

 

Empire has better action the bad guys win however Jedi has a better story and a great way to end the Saga. I like them both equally

 

Why can't i choose A New Hope?

I prefer empire.

 

I like them both equally.


I watch ROTJ much more often, but TESB is the better movie.

ROTJ is more fun, but TESB has so much character development.

TESB has battle of Hoth, but ROTJ has battle of Endor.

ROTJ has the most emotionally intense and amazingly emotional lightsaber battle of the saga, but TESB duel has Vader at his most imposing, and most powerful.




Honestly, I can't decide, I love them both so much for so many different reasons.
...Just like every movie in the saga.

 

It depends on what mood I'm in. Both of them have pros and cons. Empire has a cooler story, but Jedi has a better duel at the end. Vader is menacing and evil in Empire, but Luke actually acts like a Jedi knight in Jedi. Harrison Ford is a lot cooler in Empire, but hey - Jedi has Leia in the metal bikini! They're both great movies as far as I'm concerned. Like I said, it depends on my mood which one I think is better.

I think the Empire is a better ruler of the galaxy. Although they run a tryant empire, it effectively controls the populations. The Jedi and Republic had troubles with the Confederacy, because of their lack of control in the galaxy.

As for actually living there, I would rather live under the Jedi/Republic.

 

ROTJ. This the best part of SW saga. It has lot of magic. TESB is also great but.... hmm.... ROTJ rules!

 

no doubt Empire...it's the love story. and Han's jacket will always be ash blue and is pants are brown! with that cool blood stripe.

I think someone missed the concept of this thread.

 

You can't compare EMPIRE and JEDI.

EMPIRE is the pinnacle of movie development still, while JEDI is a rushed, flawed follow up to two wonderful films that tries to tie too much story in it for an ending.

As much as I say I prefer ROTJ to ESB, I feel I should clarify -- it ain't by much. ROTJ has the advantage by maybe one, two points on the 1-100 scale of movie goodness.

I'll willingly admit that without Salacious Crumb I would rate ROTJ lower.

But as it stands, ROTJ > ESB for me. If loving Ewok antics is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Empire, by far. Jedi was when SW started to becoms a stupid kiddy series, and now it's just a joke. The Ewoks are an insult to anyone over the age of 2 and with an IQ over 70. Empire is by far the best of the SW series. ANH is fun, but it really doesn't amount to much. The prequels are junk, Episode III is gonna blow, and Jedi is terrible. If it wasn't for Empire, Sw would be more forgotten than it is.

Jedi is my sentimental favourite, but I accept Empire is the better film technically. Don't ask me to pick, though
