ST Which Droid is better at showing emotions and connecting to the audience? (R2-D2 or BB-8)

R2 by a margin because of the sounds he can make.

 

I vote for R2 because he always reminded me of a budgerigar.

 

I can't decide - love them both.

 

"The audience" again? Can we just merge Star Wars with American Idol and get it over with?

 

Still nothing can beat the relationship beween R2 and Luke, but I like BB-8 too.

 

BB-8, by far. Which is how it should be, as BB is a design from 40 years later. Think about how far cars have come in 40 years.

I read somewhere that Disney really channeled Wall-E with BB. I haven't seen Wall-E but I've seen the character so I can see what they mean.

BB just has has many, many advantages in terms of expression and emotion. Not to say I don't adore R2 tho!

 

I just saw the movie for the second time and need to change my vote to BB8.

I love both equally, but i voted BB-8. a couple of times when he made sad noises or hung his head people in the theater went "awww" and im pretty sure a lady was crying when Finn told him Poe "died".

I wish there was a "can't choose" option. No doubt this face turns the most hardened badass to butter, but R2-D2 is my hero.

BB-8 for sure. As others have said, being able to tilt its head make a huge difference in anthropomorphism. Also, when it is rolling it can "lean in" to show determination, or "flail" by moving the head back or to the outside of a turn to look out of control or silly.

 

We saw Artoo lean forward when sad etc... he has his subtleties that work just as well

I think they're both equal..

 

An attempt at humor, that's all.

 

People are already forgetting the ocular device on Artoo's dome that he swivels to different positions based on his mood.

Look at this droid and tell me he doesn't look forlorn.




Tell me Artoo isn't excited here...


Don't get me wrong... I love Beebee and think he's every bit as cool as Artoo... I just think people are suddenly selling Artoo short when they both are on the same level in their own ways!

 

R2 is classic and my fave. BB 8 seems a bit more gimmicky. He was definitely designed to appeal to the children more so than R2. I liked bb8 in the film though and enjoyed his Ewok-esque hijinks. I suppose now that Lucas isn't daddy anymore we will unfortunately see less of R2 and c3po.---in a way that is fitting seeing as how bb8 is Rey's or Poe's droid.

 

BB-8 - hard to find his merchandise though...

Yep. It works for droids like R2 and BB-8, but giving the prequel era battle droids emotions such as fear, etc was always puzzling in my book.
