    The difference:

The Director's Cut is, well, the director's cut. The preferred edition, basically, until now. It also apparently has a great commentary by Peterson.

The Superbit Edition is the same movie as the Director's Cut, but being superbit, it doesn't have extras and instead presents the best possible audio and video.

The complete version is the complete version, another more than an hour longer than the Director's Cut. I know, it's already a long movie, and most of the added material is more character development, but the reason this movie works so well is the long buildup of claustrophobic tension before the spurts of action, so for some apparently this cut is optimal. However, this one doesn't have Peterson's commentary.

I'm pretty sure I won't get the Superbit - my system's not good enough that "optimal" bitrates really matter that much, and I doubt I'd see or hear much of a difference from the other cuts.

So should I get the director's cut with commentary, or the complete version?

Tough one. But I voted for the Complete version. Can't give you a good reason why, but still. Oh well. [face_whistling]

I'd buy the complete miniseries because I like to get as much actual "movie" as possible. I'd rent the other one with the director's commentary.

    Get them both! [face_laugh]
I've got the Director's Cut already, and the Miniseries dvd is coming via mail in a couple of days.

Still, I voted for the DC. Maybe the Series is for us freaks :)

Director's Cut. Its the version I have and it had everything Petersen really wants you to see.

    Get the complete series.
Then let me know if it adds enough to the film to warrant buying.

This poll is to help me determine what to do, yes. I own zero editions of DAS BOOT, and would like not to have to dish out for more than one.

Buy all of them. But buy duplicates of those as well. That way you can watch one set of the versions, but also have a backed up set of versions lest something untoward happens to the versions you watch. Ya know, like lending them to someone who lends them to someone who passes them onto a friend and before you know it boom! you've lost them. But not if you have backups. ;)
