Which game series has the best music?

Am I the only one who loves the Metal Gear Solid music?

Nope, you're not the only one Ornen. MGS had a great score and a couple of very nice songs.

Medal of Honor Frontline: Great score as well.

I voted Star Wars...c'mon folks, it's really hard to top John Williams.

 

Indeed Williams is great, but when it comes to video games I tend to give more weight to original compositions. When a new Star Wars game comes out, most of the time you already know the music is going to be great because you've already heard it. Of course, there are some exceptions like SOTE and KOTOR.

But that's just me.

 

No One Lives Forever 1 and 2, for the fact that I've been humming "'coz no one lives forever-r-r-r-r!" ever since I heard it.

And it's like Austin Powers... just more original.

 

The Lucasarts iMUSE adventures. Namely Grim Fandango, but also special mention to the Monkey Island series.

 

Final Fantasy!

Their soundtracks are bloody brilliant and FFX was beautiful. The music for FFX-2 sounds a bit strange. The main character sings stuff like Britney Spears did before she met guys

 

And there's always HALO. A kick-ass score for a kick-ass game. I even have the soundtrack and I always feel compeeled to play the game after listening to it.

I liked Halo's music...

 

I would have to say that the Double Dragon series had the best music. That main theme was an anthem for butt-kickin'.

 

I loved the original Homeworld's music. It was just so good.

But if I have to pick, I'll say Star Wars because of John Williams followed by Zelda and Metroid.

Well of course Star Wars music is always great. I mean come on I love Star Wars music.

But other than Star Wars i would have to say Halo. It has awesome music and is an awesome game overall, but I should probably save for another forum lol.

 

Other: Planescaep: Torment, followed VERY closely by Icewind Dale which is, in turn, followed by Fallout...

 

No game has more memorable and more kick-ass songs to me than:

Definitely Final Fantasy. The only games series I know that has had its composer in "Time" magazine. Even without Uematsu (FFX and FFXI), FF music is still top notch.

Zelda has too many remixes, and I don't count Star Wars because it uses mostly music composed for the films. The original Star Wars music composed for the video games is less than stellar.

Same reason I don't count GTA. Both GTA3 and GTA Vice have outstanding soundtracks, but they're not original either.

 

Well then, let's go with Halo, since all of its soundtrack is made up of original compositions for the game.

Guess there's too many Halo lovers infecting this thread already, eh?

Oh and Star Wars has the best music score.

 

Best music would have to be the Diablo series.

Also the Unreal series and Starcraft had some great music.

It's probably the best RPG game there is. Even better than Final Fantasy. The music is just fantastic. My other choice would be, of course, Star Wars and then Final Fantasy.

 

Zelda: OoT

 

I didn't even have to consider the options when I chose. Final Fantasy is too good. SO many great tunes there. For example, FF6 had The Empire, Edgar and Sabin, Blackjack, FF7 had One Winged Angel (which incidentally inspired my name), Cid's theme and J-E-N-O-V-A, FF8 had The Extreme, Maybe I'm a Lion and the battle theme was my favourite of the series, FF9 had Kuja's theme and Vamo Flamenco and FFX of course had Zanarkand (sob...still brings tears to my eyes). And those a just a few examples that came to mind!

yes, that game has some cool music, being a techno fan I love it! But Zelda will always be the best and reign supreme in the gaming world. And as for video games Star Wars shouldn't really count becuase like all you said its just taken out of the films, they aren't original compositions.

The music from Zone of the Enders II was kick ass.

 

Zelda has gotten some really good music in recent installations. It's really catchy, too.

 

Definately JO and Indy infernal. Great stuff. The final battle from JO, Kyle vs. the lizard dude who's name I've forgotten...that was one of the best things I've ever heard from the SW galaxy...did Williams do that piece?
