The Jedi Knight games are very good, as are the KotOR games. Personally I'd start with Jedi Knight as they're not as long as the KotOR games. Really, I guess it depends on what you can get the easiest. Look out for a 'Best of PC' pack, which has Empire At War, KotOR 1, Jedi Knight 2, Battlefront, and Republic Commando.

thanks for the help i think i will. Would it be worth playing dark forces or is there not much of a story etc to it...as it looks a little doomish?

Dark Forces is awesome. It's a doom clone, but with a story.

    How rude!

Dark Forces offered something Doom couldn't... vertical levels!

The only games that link are the obvious ones (Dark Forces /JK / JO / JA) and the KOTOR games.

Here's an interesting fact. Doom was the first FPS to feature non-uniform level heights. That is to say, the floors went up and down whereas before they were all built on a flat plane.

I'm very into the history of gaming and retro games so I know things like this. :)

What on earth is that, and how do I get it?

It's a terrible idea perpetuated by bad people who like Nazism and clubbing baby seals.

Play through the dark forces series first, and use this new engine to play Dark Forces.

You can get the game on steam, I believe.
