Another idea I had to help improve communication within the JKOC was to use instant messaging. That way we could chat in real time rather then through message boards all of the time. I know there are places within our profiles to post IM log on names, but I wanted to get a consensus on what everyone here uses most often. It would be easer to stick to one service rather then three different ones.

By doing this I am not requiring everyone download the software and participate or stick to one service. It?s just another idea I had to help open the lines of communication.

I currently do not use any type of instant messaging service. Although I will download what ever ends up being the favorite and make myself available for chat.

I chose AOL. As much as I despise AOL with all my heart and soul, the messenger service is actually pretty cool, so I use that most often.

I think that I picked the wrong choice. I think that I went with MSN when I meant AOL. Oops.

I too have AOL. Maybe one of these days I'll put my regular screen name in my profile.

AOL here too. I've utilized this idea for a while now Steve. I converse regularly with Brian, Chris (TX 421), Don, Cindy, Will, and Candii. And also Kat in Detroit. [face_blush]

    What?! No ICQ?! :p

I picked AOL, since that is where I talk to everyone at, and I'm also logged into ICQ whenever I start the internet.

But I have them all. ;)

I have them as well, but since apple release iChat with OS X 10.2 to use AIM, I've been using that more than anything

    "Good call my young padawan!"

Because of our different schedules, we don't get to hang out as much as I'd like. But even while we're apart, I keep in touch with her via PM and such.

I'm still figuring out this instant message thing...personally I like regular E-mail.

IMs are SOOOO much easier than e-mail... I suggest everyone get a FREE AIM screen name by going to aol.com, then to people, then AOL Instant Messenger. This way we can IM each other, and even hold chats online... We might be able to call these "online meetings." It would be a great way for everyone to stay connected... I know it will because I talk to several JKOC people daily on AIM. You will join us... or die!!! Ok, well, maybe not that, but it'd be really cool if you would...

But I have heard that the AOL IM can crash some computers.

That's a fallacy. My computer's never crashed because of AIM. However, AIM has crashed because of my computer. But this is only on occasion, and it's most likely due to JCU's network going berserk. GET AIM ALREADY!!!

No I have heard that one of my friends computers was perfectly fine until she put AOL on it and it crashed.

i have seen first hand the problems on some machines, both PC and Mac. Carshing, instability, all kinds of stuff. Will it happen to everyone? no clue. I know that AOL couldn't put out Mac client to save their tookus. That's why I use the Apple AIM client. The service itself is fine, it's the client that can cause the problems.
