Well I grew up with the OT but I have to agree with the above list. ROTS has brought me back to Star Wars big time.

 

These are really interesting poll results!

So far, Revenge of the Sith is the collective all-time favorite Star Wars film, yet the prequels as a whole rate poorly, with TPM & AOTC rating only a measley 1% each!

I would love to see a poll between the trilogies: Prequel v Classic.

These polls only reflect the opinion of those who visit this site, who for the vast majority, are extremely prequel partisian. So they really have no real accuracy, outside of this forum, as their totally biased in nature. Taken outside away from all the prequel fanatics, and you'd get a more scientificaly accurate polling, which would have ESB in first place by a long margin. The only reason ROTS is tops now, is because the nostalgia from the prequel fans hasn't worn off yet, but when it does it will sharply drop, as it's and OK film at best. My rankings are as followed.

1) ESB
2) ANH
3) ROTJ
4) ROTS
5) ATOC
6) TPM

 

see, i didnt grow up in the 80s watching the OT. my list...

1.) ROTJ - probably the best final chapter of any story i can think of
2.) ROTS - story was intriguing, tragic, yet powerful. It tied OT and PT.
3.) ESB - probably the best non-battle scene is the "Luke, I am your father" scene
4.) TPM - Before ROTS, i thought TPM had one of the best lightsaber duels
5.) ANH - this movie gave birth to all other 5, and revolutionized sci-fiction movies
6.) AOTC - nothing wrong with the film, im just saying it could have been better

 

This poll is definitely skewed somewhat by the recency effect, with everyone being caught up in the excitement of a new film being released. However, I predict that in the mid term, you'll find that these polls will be much more in favour of the PT, as kids who are growing up with the PT and not the OT shall prefer the former.

In the long term, you'll finally start to see a reasonable poll where kids grow up with ALL the films available to them on DVD at the same time, without all the hysteria and media nonsense which is external to the films warping their opinions. I find the results for this harder to predict since people will finally view the movies as the Star Wars saga as opposed to the PT and OT.

One thing is for certain though, as the generation who grew up with the OT grow older and new generations emerge, the (imo) over-praise that the OT and ESB in particular receives(especially when compared to the PT) will be phased out.

I agree. I, myself already view all of them as one Saga, and I grew up with the original trilogy. I loved all the OT movies upon release and twenty years later, that view hasn?t changed. I love the PT movies so I don?t see my view of them changing in twenty years time either.

I thought the PT had a better story line. But like was mentioned, once the ROTS DVD comes out this is going to be one Saga. Not two parts. So it will not matter for me anyway. My fav movies of all time are the Star Wars Saga movies!!!

Its not decided which film is the best. So nobody *thinks* anything .. they *decide* what *they* think is the best SW film.. & that is not misguidness. Its what you make of it & how you feel abot it that decide what *you* think is the best film ..

Before ROTS I would say that my favorite was ROTJ.

But ROTS delivered on so many levels and explained so many things that I can't help but be in love with it. I think the emotional factor is what makes this movie really stand out among the rest.

 

Star Wars is my favorite, but since it isn't an option, I had to go for "A New Hope", even though I never saw it in the theater; back in 1977 only Star Wars got a theatrical release--in a way "A New Hope" is a "made-for-TV-movie"!

 

For prequel, I like AOC. For triology, I like ROTJ
