I'm sure Empire and Godfather II will be popular picks, but any others?

    Those two.

    X-Men 2
    Spider-Man 2
    Toy Story 3

People can make arguments for Terminator 2 and Aliens and Temple of Doom...

Back to the Future Part II.

This film has a much larger scope that part I and was the only one of the 3 films to get down with the real meat of time travel stories: Paradoxes, the future, alternate timelines.

Plus it has flying cars, Jaws 16, Elijah Wood in his first acting role and Fax machines still being prevalent in 2015. What's not to love?

Harry Potter 3 is the best of the HP movies. Spider-Man 2 is lovely.

    Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    Batman Returns, imo.
    The Dark Knight
    From Russian with Love
    Spider-Man 2
    Aliens
    The Expendables 2
    The Road Warrior

I stuck to second entries and ignored stuff down the line, because I'm lazy.

I like the 2nd and 3rd BTTF movies a lot but they don't quite surpass the original for me.

    **this**

Plus, yes, Godfather II and Empire.
I might argue for Indy and the Last Crusade before Temple but that's mostly for Connery

    Spider-Man 2
    X-Men 2
    The Dark Knight
    The Empire Strikes Back
    Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    Mission: Impossible 3
    Bad Boys 2 ( there's an obscure one :p )

Terminator 2 is in a difficult spot for me, because if I was to consider the original and the sequel on their own, in a vacuum independent of each other, I think the sequel is a better movie in every way. On the other hand, it's tonally too different from the original to fit in the same continuity/world, which has to also count for something. So, as a standalone movie I consider it better than the original, but I don't think it works as a sequel to the 1984 film. If that makes sense.

Honestly, I can't compare Alien and Aliens to say one is better than the other, as they are completely different genres. Alien is a flat-out horror movie, described by Ridley Scott as "a haunted house in space." Aliens is an action movie, hence the tagline "This Time It's War".

That being said...as much as I love the second film (especially the climax Queen fight....watching Lance Henriksen get ripped in half has stuck with me for nearly 30 years) my preference is for the first movie, simply because I like horror movies.
