The Good, the Bad and the Ugly doesn't really count, the whole "Man With No Name Trilogy" thing is a US marketing invention.

I think it's valid to interpret Clint Eastwood as playing more-or-less the same character in that movie. As well as in Unforgiven. :p

If the electricity hadn't gone out, I would've beaten you to the punch, IATI. I nearly fell out of my seat laughing when they put on a show. [face_laugh][face_dancing]

Bourne Identity was actually a very mediocre movies. Greengrass really gave that franchise the kick in the pants it needed.

Definitely Winter Soldier. The first Captain America was about half really good and half pretty terrible. Winter Soldier was just really good start to finish.

The Dark Knight, of course. And Dr. No has been surpassed by quite a few of its sequels; I like Dr. No quite a bit, but it isn't quite the kind of movie you expect to launch a decades long franchise.

And, perhaps a tad controversial, I think Ghost Protocol is the best of the Mission Impossible films. I do really like the first one, but Ghost Protocol is just a perfect storm of entertainment.

As in actually a trained singer? That just seems to run totally counter to his on-screen persona.

He also talks to empty chairs, but I don't know how that affects his persona.

You know, isn't The Good, the Bad & the Ugly a prequel? Because I think Clint Eastwood actually gets the poncho that he wears in the other movies in TGtB&tU. Or am I an insane person?

"Gamera vs. Barugon" (it's in color, has a more complex plot, and has no demented kids) and "Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 AD" (better visual effects, location footage, and Tom isn't as dim as MovieIan is).

EDIT: Yes, "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly" is considered as a prequel, since the Man with No Name doesn't adopt his trademark look until the end. Also, it takes place during the Civil War, while the other two movies in the Dollars trilogy are set afterwards.

As Ramza said, the "Man with no Name" movies were never intended to be part of a series. It was a move by the USA distributor. Think of Robotech, but without butchering any footage.

    World War II

Bigger and better set pieces than than World War I.

Plus the villains were so much more evil -- just better all around bad guys.

The ending was WAY, WAY cooler too. Talk about going out with a bang!

PiettsHat: World War II does seem like the nastiest movie pitch a deity could ever deliver.

"Alright, we'll start out with the Rape of Nanking, climax with the Holocaust and Stalingrad, and end with Hiroshima and Nagasaki! And just for a little ambiguity, we'll kill off the hero just before it ends (i.e., Franklin Roosevelt) and cap the story with two insane superpowers vying in a nuclear arms race!!! Now top that!"

Eh, I kind of preferred the confined simplicity of the first one compared to the expanded mythology of Chronicles.

    Super Mario Bros. 3.

Eh, Fistful of Dollars is the best of the three.

El Indio is el terrible, and everything involving him and his gang is terrible.
