George Pal's 1953 The War of the Worlds
I thought Spielberg's version was "pretty", but otherwise fell flat.
George Pal's 1953 The War of the Worlds. Not that I consider it more than a mediocre sci-fi movie for it's time.
The version from 1953..
The acting, scenario etc. pretty much everything was better in the '53 version, but it just has gotten wayyyyy too old with outdated special effects to be taken seriously on any level.
I like George Pal's version the best because it is pretty neat to see the machines gliding across the burning city of LA is quite powerful and almost a form of art.
Haven't seen either.
Spielberg's version is an absolute disgrace.
So not that... however the 1953 version is no great shakes.
What about the radio drama, the musical, and the original novel?
All I've seen is the Speilberg version, but it's one of my all time favorites.
I like the 1953 version depsite it's use as a religious propoganda film.
