Which would have more likely happened (though it won't) in real life? Star Wars or Lord of the Rings?

Given that "Middle Earth" isn't actually a part of our planet Earth, it is just as likely that either one of them would've happened.

Possibly. That's basically what I think too. :)

If you remove the magic/fantastical/creature-monsters elements from LOTR, it's like Middle Ages stuff. Most of the costumes, the weapons, the castles, seem to be inspired from Middle Ages Europe (well, except some Towers that could never be built in real life).

Both are out-and-out fantasy stories, but LOTR has more ''reality elements'' compared to SW, because the closest thing to reality SW has is the uniforms of the Imperial Admirals that look like 30's officers, while everything else inspired from the real world (Naboo architecture - Italy/Greece, Coruscant-New York, Tattoine - Arab countries) is very exaggerated.

    Of course everyone can disagree.

It's time you learned the difference between reality and fantasy...

I remember reading that Tolkien considered Middle Earth to be an alternate history of our Earth - a parallel universe, if you like. With magic chucked in to spice things up.

Of course we do, but there's nothing wrong in talking about real world elements that exist in unreal concepts. And LOTR has more of 'em.

...and that's what topics in the miscellany section are about, debating and talking about ''stupid'' stuff. And this thread is about ''SW vs. LOTR in real life terms''

LoTR due to its connection with a more "reality" based timeframe and even in forms of weaponry (swords, bows & arrows, etc.).

True, it contains many "magic" and "fantasy" elements, but it is moreso a basis on reality in the sense that Star Wars is based ENTIRELY on invented ideas and creations.

Like Rick McCallum said, everything in Star Wars is created and invented through the innovated minds of their production teams- from costumes to silverware, architechure to landscape.

Granted, many of these pieces of the GFFA are created and put into the movies in a fahsion which the way of life is derived from real life standards, but it is drastically different from the LoTR's way of using already existant (although not much practiced now days) forms of setting.

    :)

I don't see how a ring which can make somebody disappear is anymore realistic than using the Force. LOTR is not LOTR without the ring and likewise SW is not SW without the Force. You take away those elements from their respective franchises and the argument is pointless.

What does GFFA stands for? Many don't know all the abbreviations, and just today I learned what PPOR means.
