    Hi

I'm working on a fanfic and it's very important question for the fic involved.

Therefore I would like to ask this:

Who canonically beamed the Death Star plans to Leia aboard Tantive IV?

Was it Bria Tharen or Kyle Katarn or someone else?

If it was Kyle, then what are the details? Which book/comic was it mentioned in?

    Thanks

    Bria.

Kyle Katarn stole the plans, he didn't deliver them.

Besides, he stole different plans than the ones Bria sent.

didn't they transmit the plans to the Tantive IV from some asteroidal listening post (maybe in Toprawa sector) in X-wing?

It was Toprowa in the Radio Series... though IIRC, it was from the planet.

At first glance, I couldn't find any info at the Wookiepedia. If you're interested in looking, this would probably be a good starting point: http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Toprawa

The short answer? It was Havet Storm. Contrary to popular belief, Bria Theran only helped to hold off Imperial forces while the Toprawan Rebels beamed the plans out. Kyle Katarn only stole plans from Danuta--the Chronology implies that he sent these plans to Toprawa.

    The long answer?

*ahem* As far as I've been able to figure it out :D :

The Alliance set into motion the biggest anti-Imperial offensive it had ever attempted: a complex, coordinated operation to compile a complete set of plans for the Death Star and transmit them to Bail Organa's ship. (Rebel Dawn, New Essential Chronology)

According to the late Lord Tion, a convoy was to stop off at Toprawa to pick up the control system plans from the data vaults of the research station. Rebels on Danuta had learned that Lemelisk had visited the local research facility, and obtained video of another set of Death Star plans being held there. The problem was that while the Toprawa plans included the battle station's hull design and life support infrastructure, the Danuta plans included additional engineering schematics and a complete map to the offensive and defensive weapons emplacements. Additionally, technical data from the battlestation had been intercepted using stolen Imperial satellites, the IRS on Toprawa was holding the superlaser control system plans, and other schmatics had been sent to a Rebel base on Polis Massa. All of this information was needed to ensure success. The Rebels on Toprawa had a shot at the convoy, while Mon Mothma recruited an imperial defector named Kyle Katarn to infiltrate the Danuta facility.

(Kyle Katarn's Tale, Battlefront II, Dark Forces: Soldier for the Empire, X-Wing, ANH Radio Drama)

The Rebels attacked the convoy over Toprawa and obtained the plans, but the Empire threw a tight blockade around the system in response. Katarn succeeded in stealing the Danuta plans, apparently sending them to Toprawa, and the satellite technical data was stored aboard the shuttle Maria. In order to receive the various sets of plans, Bail Organa was prepared to take the Tantive to meet the shuttle Maria before making a close pass to Toprawa, finally arriving at Tatooine to receive a transmission from Polis Massa and request help from Jedi-in-exile Obi-Wan Kenobi. Leia volunteered to go in his stead, though Organa took some convincing before finally giving in.

(Radio Drama, Battlefront II, X-Wing, Databank, Empire at War) (Note that Leia recieves transmissions at Tatooine in EAW. I'm assuming those to be the Polis Massan plans)

Keyan Farlander and members of Red Squadron protected the Tantive IV while the data was transferred from the Maria. Four other corvettes were used as decoys in order to protect the Tantive's identity, but the Star Destroyer Immortal arrived, and launched an attack on the Tantive. Thanks to Keyan Farlander, the Tantive managed to escape to Toprawa.

On Toprawa, the Rebel agents were being hunted down by Imperial Commander Diamond. They recruited a young Force-sensitive man named Havet Storm to steal the control system plans, which were combined with the additional Danuta and Toprawa plans.

On the Tantive, Organa and Captain Antillies planned to fake an extravehicular malfunction upon their arrival in the Toprawan system, in order to provide a reason for their presence in a restricted system. They also recruited two droids from the ship's labor pool, Artoo Deeto and See Threepio. Artoo was fixed with a transceiver in order to receive the Toprawan transmission, and was sent outside the ship to the navicomputer suite. Threepio was instructed to receive repair reports from Artoo, as though the astrodroid were fixing a malfunction.

    (X-Wing, Jedi Dawn, Radio Drama)

While Bria Theran and Red Hand Squadron held off Imperial forces, Havet Storm transmitted the technical design data to Leia?s starship. The burst transmission succeeded, but the Devastator was already lying in wait. When Leia refused to allow Imperial investigators aboard her ship, the Devastator opened fire, and th

I'm hoping that the DS novel by Perry & Reaves will help straighten out the construction & destruction of the damn thing once and for all!

Sounds like something from a Ocean Eleven movie or a mission imposible kind of scenario.

A hard to find UK choose-your-own adventure book. It deals with a young Rebel and the circumstances leading up to the plans being transmitted. Sounds interesting, but I've never seen one in person.

The very whiff of that title dispels my interest. They think SW, they think lets put endless Jedi words in them. :D

You're right! They should have called it Putting-on-trousers Dawn or Toothpaste Dawn instead. Something I can relate to!

TC, no disrespect to you but that's an overly convulted, complex, pretzel of a story. I'm going to pretend Kyle stole them, because Kyle is cool, and the EU is layered to the point of absurdity. Sometimes.

So Kyle Katarn is cool, but managing to cohesively tue the multiple confusing, overlapping accounts of the Death Star Plans' theft into one overarching storyline isn't?

In fact, this would make an incredible heist film, if done correctly. Frankly, I think it could even be humorous, like Ocean's Eleven.

    >anything similiar for the plans of DS2? Bothan spies.. SOTE, and other stuff like marvel and DH comics?<

    Of course. :D

Rumors had begun to spread that the Empire was constructing a second Death Star in a hidden sector. The Bothan spynet learned that the Emperor had diverted huge amounts of money, material, and men to a new military project, its purpose and location as yet unknown. The Bothans bribed an Imperial officer, and used his information to infiltrate a slicer droid into the main computer complex on Coruscant in order to copy the plans for the project, but the plan failed. A Rebel attempt to destroy the Death Star at its original construction also failed and, concerned that the Rebels had discovered the project prematurely, the Emperor decided to move the Death Star to Endor. A shield generator was constructed on the forest moon to protect the station, and Palpatine sent Lord Vader to supervise the move of the Death Star to the Endor system.

(Video Board Game, Shadows of the Empire, Movie Trilogy Sourcebook)

En route to Endor, Vader's probe droids discovered a large Rebel supply base in the nearby D'rinba system. Still raging over the Tarkin's destruction, Vader decided to divert the Death Star to destroy the Rebel base on D'rinba IV, taking the Colossus and one other

Star Destroyer as escorts. The Rebels on D'rinba intercepted a message Vader had sent to inform the Emperor of his intent, and had no choice but to turn to Agent Corwin Shelvay. Shelvay, himself a former Jedi padawan, put together a crack SpecForce team of other Force-sensitives, including Kyle Katarn, Erling Tredway, and Shire Brie, to disable the Death Star's superlaser in hopes that they could replicate the earlier successes of similar missions at Patriim and Varn. The team used a stolen Imperial Supply Freighter and code to board the station.

    (VBG, Dark Forces Saga)

Unfortunately for them, Lord Vader was unhampered this time around by traitor Imperials and conflicts of interest. Finding a pupil amongst the Rebels, he was able to turn the would-be saboteurs against each other, and brought the Death Star within superlaser range of D'rinba IV. A local Rebel fleet was dispatched as a last-ditch effort to stop the battlestation, but it was hardly a match for even a half-completed Death Star. The Death Star was successfully relocated to Endor, and the Alliance was unaware that the battlestation was operational. (Depending on the outcome of the game, this is either because the Rebels succeeded in disabling the battlestation, or because Vader destroyed the planet and the Rebels.)

    (VBG)

Targeting D'rinba IV was just the beginning--Vader was careful to extinguish any hint of rebellion on all the worlds surrounding Endor. In the nearby Iskalon system Vader's forces eradicated all life on Telfrey and subjugated the world of Gamandar. Not long before, Telfrey natives and Alliance agents Yom Argo and Tay Vanis, alias Tiree, had been informed by their families of the recent Imperial activity in the sector. They visited Iskalon, suspecting that the Empire was working on a great plan or weapon nearby.

    (Marvel)

    Capturing the Plans

    3.2-3.5 A.B.Y.

Argo and Vanis, along with a Lahsbee ally, tracked rumors of this new Imperial project to Bothawui, using their two droids to keep records of their progress. Vanis succeeded in stealing vital documents containing positive information about the nature and location of the Empire's project, and Bothan spies smuggled him plans for the second Death Star. Soon, however, the Rebel agents realized that the Empire was on to them, and they split up to avoid capture. Vanis fled with the Bothan tapes, planet hopping along a predetermined course, while Argo was to go back to the Rebel fleet and bring assistance to Vanis at one of the planets they had agreed on.

Vanis's hoped-for backup never came. Imperial forces shot down Argo's ship over nearby Lahsbane, and Yom and the Lahsbee perished in the crash. His droid was also destroyed, but the native Lahsbees salvaged th

Ever thought of publishing all this info somewhere and presenting it to the author of the upcoming DS novel? Might help them or him/her better understand the intricasies LFL has put itself in.

These are just sections of a larger guide I'm working on, summerizing everything Death Star-related...it's been something of a hobby since Rogue Planet came out, but it's really only now that ROTS and DL have made it possible to tie everything back together again. I'm working on finishing the document, then either finding a home for it online or creating a website for it myself.

If the authors were interested, I'd be more then happy to send them a copy (I sent an earlier draft to Jason Fry on request), but it's an awful lot to throw at someone who isn't a fan. More then likely they're doing their own research as well.

I wonder how far along the novel is, anyway...

Except I wasn't suggesting TC wasn't cool; rather that the mess of story-lines shoehorned together to patch up the lack of respect for continuity most of the authors clearly shared. :)
