jar jar`s role in AOTC was hardly minimal. it was he who gave palpatine the control and powers that lead to the clone wars. so you could say that jar jar is responsible for everything that happened afterwards. hardly a minimal role? therefore if you feel the need to hate him, you should hate him because of this and not because he`s crap.

why all this vitriol towards jar jar? he was great. highly important to the plot, and a fine star wars character. just cos he spoke in a stupid accent, everyone is on his case.

The only positive thing I can say in Jar Jars defence is that he (back in 99) was groundbreaking

 

Unfortunately he wasn't ground breaking in the sense that he was dropped from an airplane without a parachute.

I agree big dave. I find nothing wrong with Jar Jar himself. The technology and the need for his character are fine. His accent however, and some of his actions, were unneccessary.
