What's on screen is Mace kicking Palpatine basically in the face. What's not on screen is Palpatine anticipating that and/or throwing the lightsaber fight. The original version shows that Lucas saw no need to have Palpatine put on a show for Anakin at that point. So why would he require such a thing in the final version? As I see it there are but two possibilities: 1) Assumptions on what you feel is palatable, based on preferences expressed in your posts, are right on the money. 2) Or they aren't, meaning your posts are expressing a position you actually don't find palatable. So what are the allegedly regrettable consequences here? A scene giving Mace a win that you don't agree with?
