I understand your concern... I do suggest you taking a look at the movie Serenity (he wrote and directed it, as an adaptation of his scifi western tv show that FOX killed). That movie is pure Joss Whedon, and IMO channels the spirit of ANH better than any of the prequels.

    Quite frankly, I hope so.

Some fan choices are simply appalling.

The fact that it's taking this long makes me think that Disney is trying to work out a deal with Brad Bird to drop his next movie.

Doesn't sound like their was anything to patch up - sounds like there hadn't been anything to it

While I like Firefly & Serenity, there's really not too much in common with Star Wars (unless in most general terms, such as having a bunch of characters adventuring on a ship). Firefly is more adult oriented, with more morally grey characters (and more pessimistic, too).

Or at least to work out his schedule to do both.

I was actually hoping that it would be Brad Bird...I was really impressed with Mission Impossible 4 (which I was kinda skeptical about). He knows how to structure a story and is really good at pacing. Oh well, there are other talented directors in the world...

I wonder who it will be. All the majors have already declared themselves out. I suppose Jon Favreau hasn't yet. At least not properly. I reckon its going to be that independent filmmaker that was rumoured and then didn't refute the claim in a recent interview. Or maybe it will be Mathew Vaughn after all, as out of all the favourites he’s the only one who hasn’t said anything.

Of course, there’s also always the chance that it could be someone whose name hasn’t even popped up yet. They’ve clearly given someone the job already. Either way, I’m sure we’re going to get an official announcement sometime within the next two to three weeks. I really don’t think it will be a long time before we know.

I seriously think it will either be him, Jon Favreau or Colin Trevorrow. As an outside chance I would also throw Duncan Jones and Neill Blomkamp into the mix.

I never really saw the fascination with avengers ,myself, TBH.

It has everything i could want, action, kickass stuff and violence, but it was just meh!

Iron Man was good. Iron Man 2 was meh!, and 3 doesn't look too bad.
Never saw Thor or Captain America. Seen both Hulk's, but still,

I loved how Wheedon handled the battle of New York at the end of the Avengers. How the action was big and chaotic, yet very ordered as well... gave me a Star Wars big battle sequence feeling. Even commented as much at the time how "Star Wars'ish" that final battle felt.

What about Joe Johnston? (not my favorite choice though)

Edgar wright (sp?) is one of my favorite directors. While I think he'd jump at the chance, I'm pretty sure he's busy with AntMan due out 2015 as well.

I think Disney will have a problem handing the job to a guy like Trevorrow. The last 2 times Disney has hired an inexperienced director to make a huge movie for them the results have been bad with Tron: Legacy and John Carter.

I think that's an old article. Seems like Vaughn is moving forward with Secret Service.

JJ Abrams, in my opinion, is the best one to direct Star Wars VII. If not, there is Matthew Vaughn or Luc Besson.

Abrams already said he isn't interested. Besson rarely directs anymore.
