There's nothing wrong with a little background seasoning. The helmet is one.

Endor is a moon... But size matters not....

Do you remember those lines from TPM?

Nute Gunray: M-my lord, it-it's impossible to locate the ship. It's out of our range.
Darth Sideous: Not for a Sith.

We have lots of examples where Force sensitives had found people, erased planets, responsible for the destruction of Death Stars, or used their feelings to realize who are their sisters, if the enemy was really their fathers, etc...

I'm totally positive Ben Solo would find the helmet combining Force with technology (Maul somehow had found Tatooine, but used droids to locate Qui-Gon)...

Luke must have cremated Vader's suit not very far from the Shield Generator, which was an easy place to find....

You know, now that I think about it, I think that Luke may have given Ren the helmet himself. He would have said, "Here is your grandfather." It kinda makes sense. Vader may have wanted to keep the helmet to teach a lesson if need be. But who knows?

Kylo took it from the Ewoks.

He loves the smell of Ewok fur in the mornings.

Luke unwittingly cooked Vader for the Ewoks to eat. Ben got pissed at Luke for this as this was an act of defecation, and so went back for his family honor to rescue the armor rather than leaving it among the Ewok collection of helmet drum sets and toilet seats. As Ben took back the helmet he slaughtered the Ewoks. He told Luke, " They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I HATE THEM"!
