Yes, we should all be taxed equally.

Everyone is equal, although obviously some people are more equal than others.

(I'm just having a lend of you marv. It's good that you have lofty ideals. run with it, I say)

All the way to the top!!

Just think of this as Question Time.

And when you graduate to parliament, and you're running the world you'll sit back and think, I wonder what happened to ol' kahls, gee all that taking out of context and juvenile debating sure prepared me for playtime with the big kids.

And you won't have to wonder for long, cos I'll be right there, asking for a job (high-pay, low-hours, mostly consulting)

Like a CEO who 'earns' a $10,000 a week wage rise?

Or a CEO who 'earns' a million share options (at say $5 a share) for raising company shares by $2?

Or an actor who 'earns' $40 million for a month's work?

I think you'd be hard pressed to convince most people that anyone's job is worth $10K a week - let alone worth a $10K a week wage rise.

And it's just occurred to me that I am in a field where I could conceivably make $10K a week (or more, and even do it legally...) if I choose that career path. And even knowing how much hard work and stress it involves (worst case scenario: emotional and mental breakdown in about 6 months from the stress), I still don't think I could justify that sort of wage. (And now I think about it, the people in the worst case scenario are usually not on anything near that kind of wage...).

So I think I can say, without it sounding like sour grapes or jealousy, that people earning higher wages don't necessarily 'deserve' a higher income more than people on lower wages.

IMHO, if you are willing to accept a disproportionate share of the boons of society, you should also be willing to accept a disproportionate share of the burdens of society.

But that's getting right off track...

Ozhaggis is a postgrad psychology student, mere months away from registration (MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *cough*) - which means one career path is clinical psychology (which isn't as common as you think, and not something I'm interested in) which these days is set at a minimum hourly rate (by the APA) of about $160/hour.

The "worst case scenario" job is working for Community Services - which includes working with abused women & children. Which is why most people quit within a year. And you get to do that for a wage that's closer to $15 an hour.

Seriously, I have yet to see one person refute, successfully, that Paul Keating's hand on HRH's bot-bot wasn't a classic moment in the history of this wonderful land of ours.
