    I think it's a tie between MLK and post-hajj Malcolm X.

Jackie Robinson set the stage for the Civil Rights movement in the 50s and 60s, and paved the way for King and X, among others, to make significant progress in those decades.

Going to go with MLK with Fredrick Douglas as a close second. Malcolm X was an interesting figure but he wanted black superiority and not equality for all like King

I chose MLK Jr. Just on a side note. Being a EMT here in Nashville, TN, I actually transported James Earl Ray many years ago from Riverbend Max Prison to the Hospital about a month before he died. He was a remarkably small man in stature. He was only about 5ft.5in. tall and only weighed about 85lbs. The liver disease he suffered from had eaten him up. To me he looked like a man that just didn't want to live anymore, who had no fight in him anymore. Did he do it? Possibly was the shooter, but no way in hell if he had any involvment at all was he in the plot alone. He was known at the prison as "Pops," due to his age. I just called him Mr. Ray. Not that I had any respect for him, it's just out of professionalism. Even MLK's family thought he was innocent and petitioned fervently to have him released from prison. Just goes to show what an INCREDIBLE IMPACT MLK JR. HAD ON SOCIETY and how his influence lived on with his family.

QFT, anyone who has done even a little research on him knows that his philosophy before Mecca was far different from his philosophy after.

He is someone who struggled in his early life, but through education and self enlightenment overcame all obsticles. That is why I voted for Malcom, he is easier to relate to and showed that change is possible for everyone regardless of their past.

MLK was a great civil rights leader don't get me wrong there, but Malcom is someone who more people can actually find something in common with and be inspired by IMO.

I imagine my vote in this poll is more of a case of me knowing more about him than the others than anything else.

    Martin Luther King, Jr.
