I was getting ready to write Bryan Singer off as another promising director lost to superhero movies, but then I realised- maybe he was never really that promising in the first place?

Usual Suspects was pretty good, but it had a pretty good script that'd be hard to really screw up. Apt Pupil was okayish, but it didn't do anything special that the novella didn't already do. And then before you know it you're riding a barrel down that river of mediocrity better known as the X-Men series.

I just think his style is really flat and bland. And his last really good film was ten years ago now. Must do better, Bryan!

How about the greatest next generation filmmaker? Shyamalan or Singer?

    Neither.

I'd say either Christopher Nolan or Sofia Coppola.
