What most people do not know about Ringo Star is that he is an awesome drummer. Here is the main reason that he is so underrated...

During the original recording sessions there were only so many mics. Ringo could not play to ellaborate of a groove because the mics couldn't capture all of his playing.

Keith Moon of the Who was also a very good player. According to an interview with Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry... Keith would tune his drums.

Those of you that play would understand the process.

Check out a "drum clinic" at your local music store for more details.

John Bonham MOBY DICK (echo, echo, echo)

Although, I recently saw 3 Doors Down in concert... their drummer Daniel Adair went into a drum solo, and I swear he just about blew Moby Dick out of the water!

Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. He's a machine. Nobody can touch him.

Alex Van Halen is my favorite but Mike Portnoy isn't human.

Bonham rules, and Keith Moon (The Who), Neil Peart (Rush) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer) are my other favourites. Mitch Mitchell was a great rythmic complement to Jimi Hendrix as well.

I'm quite familiar with balance. I don't think listening to a cd for the 20th time this year will change anything.

I love Neil Peart the best. His technical ability is unbelievable. But listening to Achilles Last Stand will make you take notice of John Bonham.

Rick Allen of Def Leppard, I am not much of a fan of the band as a whole...but for having only one arm that guy can play better than most drummers with two arms.

Bonham. Anybody who votes Ringo is a Beatles fanboy. Hell, a reporter once asked John Lennon if Ringo was the best drummer in the world. John's response: "He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles."

Ringo kept a beat, Bonham kept beats under his boot, Moon danced around the beat, but Peart became the beat. :p

Little Feat's Richie Hayward gets my vote. My wife and I saw them several times in concert and he did a fabulous job. He gets into it so much that he's jammin' up there with his tongue hanging out. Gotta love his commitment!
