Dean Koontz. Stephen King is a close second.
I don't really have a favorite author...I read so many different authors and genres that it's really impossible for me to pin one down. I can name authors I love, but not my favorite out of them all.
I love Jean Shepherd, but favorite is L.M. Montgomery.
Terry Pratchett > All
I know it sounds so cliche but I really do love JK Rowling, and Stephen King, and Michael Crichton lol
How about Bea Arthur?
i like Robert A. Heinlein (starship troopers) and of course timothy zahn because he was the author of the first star wars book i
read, it was heir to the empire and i was about six or seven
Raymond E. Feist.
Always has been, always will be.
Michael Crichton is my overall favorite.
Not Douglas, but Richard Adams -- he of Watership Down, Shardik and Girl in a Swing fame. Very engaging and popular style, while simultaneously literary and meticulously crafted. /uses Jedi mind-trick/ You will read all his books immediately!
Where's the catagory for "I don't read books?"

What?! why no Tolkien on list?!!!
Tolkien!! tell you is J.R.R. Tolkien!!
I voted for Mark Twain, author of the irresistable Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but I like many of the authors listed, and the great omission, J. R. R. Tolkien, would tie Twain at least.
oh hey! I like Mark Twain, and his Adventures of Huckleberry Finn too!!
Wow, I don't even know how to pick. I like so many different authors depending on the series I'm going to have to go with other this time around.
J.R.R. Tolkien, hands down. Although I love J.K. Rowling and C.S. Lewis too.
These things change over time. Currently:
J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter series)
Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice)
George Orwell (1984)
Arthur Golden (Memoirs of a Geisha)
Toss up between Adams and Tolkien. I went with Adams for the humor.
Either Tom Clancy or Dale Brown.
James Luceno or Michael Reaves
Wow this poll is almost 5 years old....times do change, since I am convinced that KR would have included Neal Stephenson in this poll.
I voted other, while I enjoy some of the authors listed, I wouldn't say any of them are my favorite. Ummm, I'd have to go with one of these...
Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, John Grisham, and Stephen King (mostly for the Dark Tower series).
He's only the most phenominal author ever and DEFINITELY gets my vote.
The Riftwar Saga was my first fantasy novel purchase, and Faymond E. Feist is still my favorite author.
