My fave is a tie between three characters:

    Samwise the Brave
    Gollum
    and
    Smeagol

They were at their best in TTT, I found Gollum and Smeagol weren't as good in RotK (mainly because they were in agreement). Little can match up to Sam's speech at the end of TTT, and no matter how many times he tried, he couldn't beat himself.

I say Gandalf because he is wise when it comes to history and lore in addition to being an honest, noble wizard.

I don't know if I could pick one favorite character.

Theodin is such a good character in the fact that he is a humble king.

Gollum shows within him the very struggle of good and evil. inside him is the struggle of the ring's power.

    Arwen- Mmmm, Liv Tyler :)

Elrond- Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.

and of course, the ring. Because without it, there is no struggle, and with no struggle there is no story.

Sam, the big working-class hero of ROTK. He also had my West Country English accent to boot! :D

I find it curious that Frodo has received the second-fewest number of votes!

Boromir! He's by far the most interesting character in LOTR. Eomer became my second favourite after seeing the films, but I suspect that's purely to do with my teenage hormones.

It's so hard to choose between them though, because all of them were such well written and performed characters that meshed together into one big whole.

gandalf before the bridge of khazad-dum is the best...pippen afterwards.

not to sound cruel or anything, but people who vote for a character just because he/she is good looking...sad

For me, it is a toss up between Aragorn and Sam.

    I had to choose Sam.

Sam is the true hero of the saga. The loyal friend who stands like a rock against his Master against all trials and tribulations. Showing perseverance, friendship, humility, sacrifice... Sam is the true hero.

I voted for Aragorn. Why? To me, is the most moving of the characters and has the most spirit and heart, and is just wonderfully acted by Viggo in all three of the films.

Before I saw the movies, my favorite was Gimli. I stopped though once I saw the movies, even though he is the 'comedy' relief in the films, I thought it took away from his character as a whole, the one I thought kicked major butt in the books.

Random thought, we still need to see the footage of him sitting on a dead orc smoking a pipe, I didn't catch it in the third movie. :(
