I think Carter did a pretty good job!
It's close, but Lincoln won me over when he helped Bill & Ted with their history homework. Class act.
Ehh, I'm partial to James Madison.
I don't think anyone comes close to those three.
"Hey! Who turned out the lights?"
James K Polk
I've only lived through three and i can only remember two of those, so i'll have to say Bush Jr.
Why would you only judge those in your lifetime. Just look at historical fact and then judge it, rather than choosing from who you lived through. I have been alive during part of Regan, Bush, Clinton and Bush Jr. I am personally glad that those were not my only choices.

You said it yourself, history is infrared.
So you are assuming that you can accurately judge the recent Presidents because you were alive. There are just as many things we don't know about recent Presidents as we don't know about past presidents.
But we lived through their rulings, we felt their decisions as they were made instead of reading about them. I'm not going to say a president that lived 90 years ago was my favorite because i never felt the result of any of his decisions, therefore i really have no business in claiming something like that.
Do you ever drive on the interstate? That was the result of decisions by Harry Truman.
You know that Social Security tax you pay? FDR.
There are many things that effect you now that happenned many, many years before you were born.
While I'm a Polk fan and it's hard not to say Reagan is my favorite, John Quincy Adams is probably my overall favorite.
John Quincy Adams is on the list of the best secretary of States but I can't say he is a good President.
Polk on the other hand was a great one term President.
