    1) Sean Connery
    2) Pierce Brosnan
    They are the best

    3)Roger Moore
Much to stiff for Bond, he would make an excellent Sherlock Holmes however

    4) George Lazenby
    5) Timothy Dalton
They didn't seem to like the rolls, Dalton in fact hated being Bond after a while and it began to show.

I'm glad that some people have mentioned Dalton. He was never truly appreciated! His two movies are some of the best in the series, bringing back an edge to Bond, the way Flemming envisioned, and ending the "fluffy" Roger Moore era.

Lazenby was okay, the worst of the five, however his movie (OHMSS) was very good! It was a good Bond movie because it was risky and different. Bond got married, only to have his wife killed at the end. A sad ending, unlike any other in the series.

Yes, Connery was the original, but does that make him the best? He certainly has the most hair. Sean is great, but some of his Bond movies were rather slow.

Brosnan is doing a great job. The proof: his three movies have made more money than any other Bond ever. He is also very good, but a bit too slick and polished. Still, I love his first three outings as Bond, and I hope that he continues to make several more.

It's hard to pick a favorite, however I do prefer the modern era (Brosnan and Dalton) to the outdated versions from Connery and Moore. As a fan though, each actor portrayed Bond in a different way, and they were all good. The next topic: best and worst Bond movie! I know my pick for worst: Moonraker! Bond in space? Jaws in love? Truly awful!

Mike, Worst Bond movie IMO is Octopussy, I got disgusted with it after about 45 minutes and turned it off.

The best Goldfinger, followed by Golden Eye, Thunderball, and Dr. No

Watching Dr. No and typing at the same time!

I don't know...I liked Sean Connery, but I also liked Pierce Brosnan. OHMSS was an awesome movie, the only Bond movie with a true love story in it.

    1. Connery
    2. Brosnan
    3. Moore

The other 2 sucked and so did their movies. I'm a major Bond fan, but I can't watch those 3 movies. Yucky.

Sean Bean as Alec Trevelyan! Oh wait...

Well, Dalton did portray the character closest to what Flemming envisioned.
Brosnan has an elegance... but, he is too smooth. I like my protagonists to have "edges".
Sean Connery, on the other hand, had the best voice/legs combo. [face_love]

PB, you forgot David Niven on your list.

Oh, and I think its weird how the CIA guy in the Brosnan movies was killed in an earler movie while playing a bad guy. I think it was The Living Daylights, but I'm not sure.

It's true that Dalton portrayed Bond more accuratly in terms of how the books made the character out to be but what works in print doesn't always work in films. As the stunts and situations become more ridiculous, playing the character straight and serious becomes more and more absurd.

What makes Connery and Brosnan so good is that they know when to play it tongue in cheek. You have to get the sense that he knows the ridiculousness of his situation and doesn't take the whole thing so seriously. He has to have fun chugging martinis, getting the women and killing the bad guys.

Bond also has to be a cold blooded killer. That part, Dalton and Connery got right and Brosnan showed signs of in The World is Not Enough. Bond is a necessary evil. A bad guy that you don't want around your wife or daughter or would even associate with except when it really hits the fan. Bond's the greatest movie character of all time, IMO. I hope there are a lot more with Brosnan but I hope they get a little more hard core.
