The thread title is "your dream Star Wars director," not "your reasonably and realistically expected Star Wars director" :p

    Escape from Ord Mantell

Wouldn't mind seeing one by Guillermo Del Toro.

I don't know if I want to see him direct, but someone I'd like to see write a Star Wars movie is J. Michael Straczynski. If you've seen Babylon 5, you know he knows sci-fi.

I think that it'd be alright with me if Lucas came back for a more influential role on the last spin off film. It's pretty much a send off for the series. While a directing position might be a bit much, to have just the original cast with a new story set in the (post) OT would be amazing.

I know this will likely get some hate, but: Peter Jackson.

    I know, I know, BUT

I would love to see SW on the kind of epic scale with the vast scope that PJ gave to LOTR and The Hobbit. I would've loved if SW was made that way. Not to mention I wouldn't mind the option of 3-4 hour extended versions of the episodes. It is nothing more or less than three words: MORE STAR WARS.

Has to be during the Ancient Sith Era. That would be amazing.

Agreed-I have always said that if I ever saw new SW movies, I'd want it to be during the Old Republic era-like X thousands of years b.b.y.

Different characters, different outfits, Sith armies, different color/style lightsabers, less developed technology, etc...

PJ and Zang Yimou to do ancient era. Cuaron to do a stand alone. I would really like Spielberg to do a one-off also.

Mamoru Oshii. Or Aronofsky. I'd like to see a more contemplative take on Star Wars.

Let's take the franchise full circle and all just agree that Kurosawa would be ideal.

That would make the section of cinema history books dealing with who influenced who almost unintelligible.

I gotta go with Blomkamp as well. Maybe with the help of a story treatment that would have already been provided, just so he can worry more about the direction and visual look of the film.

And of course, Id go crazy if Spielberg finally got to do one. It just doesnt seem fair that this hasnt happened yet.

I wonder why Kurosawa is so popular in fandom? Is it about retroactively praising the people who were cited as being an influence on SW?

I haven't seen his movies, btw., just wondering.

John Carpenter, Nolan, Scorsese. Especially Scorsese since his stuff is so real and urban. He's got an imagination and I'd like to see how far he can take it.
