I think Jon Favreau would be perfect for a anthology film. Taika Waititi would have been great for the Han Solo movie. He can direct a really funny movie that also has sincere character moments. Ridley Scott has stumbled recently but I would still give him a crack at an anthology film.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe Kosinski nab an anthology film at some point.

Probably the last guy I would want... He would indulge every bad fan-fiction idea known to man! Cool guy though.

You wouldn't get Death Troopers backing Thrawn at Atollon and in Season 4 in Rebels without his hand in crafting the show to connect with Rogue One. Plus, he contributed somehow to TLJ, visited the set a few times (he wrote Trials of the Darksaber during one visit due to being inspired by the production of the movie), and likely made it somehow possible for Rebels S4 to tie-in with the movie. Could be Crait abandonment, something with the Force and the Jedi, or this has been a lot of speculation lately and shot down frequently: DJ is Ezra.

Anyone mentioned Darren Aronofsky? To me the guy is sophisticated and mystic enough to create a surprising and disorienting Star Wars flick.

Looks like Villeneuve may have created a classic with Blade Runner 2049. Lucasfilm oughta offer him a big bag of cash to do a spin-off.

I hope he'll direct a film that utilizes the STAR WARS 1313 video game concept art that Kathleen Kennedy, in 2015, called "gold", and that it was "something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, poring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further."
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_1313

Disney probably halted production of the game in order to eventually make a film, with a tie-in game, as opposed to a film based upon a game, even though it could possibly be a film based upon a previously-developed game. Not like they make films based upon rides, or anything like that. The concept art is probably just too good to use for a game first. I would think Villeneuve would be at the top of the list of directors for LFL/Disney to choose from, particularly if they pursue a gritty noir film based around Coruscant.

Had Warcraft not been a critical and commercial disaster in the US, I would have loved to see Duncan Jones take on a Star Wars film. Moon and Source Code are good recent examples of thoughtful sci-fi cinema.
