Well we've had Alan Dean Foster, Donald Glut, James Kahn, Terry Brooks, RA Salvatore, and Matthew Stover.

    Bring back Stover.

I will buy the novelization as soon as it comes out and then torture myself over the next few weeks by not reading it until after I see the film. It will be horrible waiting those few weeks or whatever amount of time it is, but that's what I did for ROTS and that's what I'll do for VII.

Doesn't much matter who writes it, if it comes out before the movie I won't be able to resist.

Matthew Stover or a non-EU author.

Just last night, while reading the news of a near-contract for Harrison, I got to wondering if Han would die in VII and it occurred to me again that, while yes, I do want to know if Mark, Carrie and Harrison are returning and yes, I probably would like to know more about the new charcters we'll be getting, there are just some things I don't want to know.

But it's just sooo hard to resist those cookies!

    Stover or Luceno.

No Zahn; I doubt that man would be able to write a novel without filling half of it with Thrawn and the other half with people drooling over Thrawn.

A well known EU writter would be great and it would show some commitment by Lucasfilm/Disney towards the EU. But George Lucas can writte. He showed it with the ANH novel. I doubt that he is interested in contributing to Episode VII in that regard though. In any case, I hope to be able to read the novelisation before the film actually came out.

My three choices are: Matthew Stover, Timothy Zhan or James Luceno.

anakinfansince1983 You're a bit hard on Zhan, I have no doubt he can writte a novelisation without refering to his characters if asked to.

Only going by what I've read of his; I haven't seen it.

Outbound Flight was only half about the Outbound Flight project; the other half was about how brilliant we were supposed to think Thrawn was. I was disappointed.

Mathew Stover... period. He did such a great job with the ROTS novelization they would be stupid not to have him write episode 7's novelization.

Alan Dean Foster. Sure, Splinters of the Mind's Eye and Approaching Storm were kind of meh, but he's done OK with film adaptations, including ghost writing the adaptation of the original movie.

James Luceno, there's no other EU author who comes close when it comes to understanding Star Wars.

Yeah, I'm still hoping for Stover - I've been re-reading Sith over the last few nights, and it's so richly written, yet true to the film. I would be a happy camper.

A lot of people are saying either Stover or Luceno and while I have enjoyed a number of works by James Luceno I think he's also had a few average SW novels. Labyrinth of Evil and Dark Lord were entertaining but they weren't even close to what we got from Stover in Traitor, Shatterpoint, and ROTS.

Don't get me wrong, TUF and CoD were great SW novels by Luceno but in my opinion Stover is the cream of the crop. Not to mention Matt has already penned a novelization of one of the films, which is a different type of challenge.
