And out of curiosity why have people said sidious over yoda and vice versa?

 

Since I assume you are asking who is the most powerful I will answer and give a quote:

As for the Sidious/Yoda question, I believe Yoda has a greater Knowledge of the force because he has lived far beyond Anakin and Sidious' lives. Sidious on the other hand has mastered and perfected his abilities in the dark side of the force to a point where no one can best him (mastery). Anakin still has more to learn but at such a young age has the ultimate power and is still growing more powerful.

But if Anakin is so powerful, why does yoda say obi wan isnt strong enough to face palpatine, theres the advantage of knowing and understanding anakin etc but still, that implies yoda and palpatine are above anakin and obi

 

I would say yes they are above him, but just like I said, in knowledge and mastery. However in raw force power and abilities, no way. The guy was concieved of midi chlorians.

 

Don't get too carried away with what these guys say in docos etc. Lucas himself is fond of the off-the-cuff remark, let alone people like Gillard and Rick McCallum.

Most powerful with the Force: Yoda / Sidious
Potential: Anakin
Best with a sabre: Mace
Against non-Force users: Sidious would probably be the most ruthless.

 

Sidious was able to use the Darkside to predict the future within reasonable accuracy, whereas Yoda was resigned to the Force being "always in motion".

As for knowledge, Sidious had the whole Galaxy at his fingertips after ROTS. He could learn all there was to learn.

 

That is certainly an original opinion.

It isn't always about power though, it is better to face someone you know inside and out then someone you don't.

 

Mace Windu is the Force, so he is the most powerful being in the universe. Mace Windu is not dead in the Star Wars Universe. He just got his hand chopped off then and thrown out of an extremely high window. They never actually show a dead Mace. Any one who as seen the original Clone Wars mini series knows he is still alive. He probably just jumped on an air speeder and went in to hiding. If you thought Mace was dead you are extremely ignorant. Mace would be disappointed in you he would say "HAVEN'T YOU SEEN ANY OF MY MOVIES!"
