ST Who will be the slapstick comedy character in E7?

Have not seen this topic but here goes.......

Every Star Wars film has had a fair amount of Lapstick Comedy, Somethings it fit and sometimes it didn't, and once it was so overblown that it ruined the entire film (TPM). Lucas had a tatic of placing this on one major character in each film, so lets review who these characters were......

TPM ..............Jar Jar Binks : (
AOTC ......... C-3P0 : (
ROTS ........ R2-D2

ANH ........... C-3P0 and R2 ( This was the right touch in a otherwise origin film setting up the entire saga.)

TESB ........ C-3P0 and R2 (Again a perfect amount of setting the darker tone of the best film in the saga.

ROTJ........... Han Solo (WTH) : (

 

Yeah thats what I meant to say..........lets us that Slapstick.

 

I was gonna ask if lapstick was a euphamism?

I'm not sure, but I'd go with a new character. That is if JJ includes any real slapstick, he may go for more subtle comedy instead, one liners and quips, sorta thang.

 

We'll probably end up having to lock this later, but for now we can leave it open and see how it goes. And just for fun, let's leave the incorrect spelling in the title.

Edit: On second thought, I'll change it.

 

I think C-3PO and R2-D2 will join the New 3 for their adventures and will fill this role. They might be a little less "slapstick" this time around, though.

 

Hope R2 and C-3PO get their bantering time in.

 

Eh, to be honest, I don't think Abrams will have too much of an issue with this. If I recall correctly, most people who saw Scotty play the comedy role in the Star Trek reboots liked him well enough. I remember reading an anecdote where Zachary Quinto kept cracking up whenever Pegg said "Can I get a towel?" for one scene.

Personally, I think when and where the comedy occurs is important. For me, Jar Jar isn't too bad because TPM (on the whole) is rather light-hearted. The most grating humor is in ESB where they intercut Luke's epic dramatic duel with Vader and C3PO's whining. It just doesn't work that well for me.

 

Eh I'd argue that R2 and C-3PO's banter helped progress the plot at points.
Jar Jar not as much. The whole Pod racer being completed scene. The Eopie farting scene, The droid scene in Watto's shop was pretty funny. Some of his antics in the final battle were fine too. Have to watch the movie again just to be sure.
C-3PO with the Battle Droid in AOTC was not that funny. Good metaphor to Anakin's state of being if that was what they were going for.

I always felt that the banter between Han and Leia in ESB made for some great comic relief. I look forward to a host of comical marital exchanges in the new films.

 

As long as its not Han Solo, I will be ok with it, and of course no Jar Jar either !!

 

I sure hope it's the type of subtle banter we had in the OT, such as the droids and Han & Leia. Nothing even close to slapstick (Jar Jar).

Han on the Death Star was funny! Probably would be awkward now so hopefully someone steps up and does something insane like that.

 

Haha. Star Wars and subtle.

 

I just hope they go light on the broad slapstick. I hope most of the humor will come from character moments and dialogue.

Star Wars (OT) was full of subtleties. Banter, facial expressions, dialogue, etc.

I do wonder if we'll see Ewoks integrated into the greater Galactic community. I can easily picture an Ewok senator used to comic effect (though probably not sidekick levels).

 

I could see an Ewok senator trying to make a point on some issue or another only to have their microphone turned off and then forced to shoot an arrow into the Chancellor's hat in order to get the mike turned back on.
