ST Who will speak first, Luke or Rey?

I definitely feel like the question is rhetorical - especially if the clip of her using the lightsaber is part of the same scene.

But Disney won't tip their hand. We'll see.

 

In that context, it could also be translated as "what type of person do you want to be?"

First, he will get the "I don't know who my parents are" answer, but the answer he wants is "someone who will fight for the side of the Light".

 

I hope the conversation plays out something like this exchange from a movie called "Da Uomo a Uomo":

"You! Who are you?"
"Someone who takes her anger out on men!"
"What are you trying to say? That I'm afraid?"
"You have a stupid face, but you get it."

That would be a great way to open the film.

 

I saw that it was three words from Luke to Rey and thought it would be "Who are you?". Look at that!

Anyone else slightly peeved we get this before any sort of trailer?

 

A little bit but I'm guessing we'll see the trailer next month and we'll be so blown away by it it won't matter that we heard about this on Twitter weeks before.

EDIT: I'm guessing Luke has been listening to this song lately.

 

Surely the opening scenes of the film will be Luke introducing Rey to her three sisters: Doh, Mi and Fa?

 

Another person has claimed the line might not be the 1st words spoken as Luke supposedly says this inside his hut, so does this mean they look at each other for a few minutes whilst Rey hands over the lightsaber and finally they go inside before Luke speaks? Talk about awkward silence....

....this is just footage/dialog that won't be actually in TLJ.


TFA trailers and RO included a bunch of scenes and dialog that was later re-shoot, re-dubbed or re-tooled or plain removed.

The whole "Who are you?" could be a huge Red herring.

At face value it could imply that:

a) Luke didn't see this coming (didn't foresee it with the Force)
b) Luke doesn't know Rey and is not Reylated to her (at least not in the sense that Rey is Luke's daughter or nephew)
c) Rey was not part of the New Jedi Order, or Jedi Academy that Luke was leading.

Everything else is just bending the meaning of the line.

It could mean:

a) Luke is awe-struck or love-struck by seeing Rey or dumb-founded
b) Luke is asking to get Rey's reaction but he knows already who she is but he's asking WHO she is (like deeper metaphysical stuff)
c) He's asking to see what Rey wants to be: i.e Are you a pilot, are you a soldier, are you a jedi?, the Who are you is asking not about what her name is but who she wants to be or become
d) Luke has gone nuts by being all alone in an island for god knows how long that he's lost all meaning of self and others. His next question is: Ok, you are Rey, now, can you tell me who I am?

All of the above can be argued as we don't have anything else at present to know about the context.

On a different topic, I was surprised to learn that

There will be flash-backs and flash-forwards. If true this will be more departure from the PT-OT, this was one of the aspects of TFA that made me mad like Han I was yelling at the screen: "that's not how star wars work!"

 

Luke: "Who are you?"
Rey: "Rey. My name's Rey."
Luke: "Got a boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?"
Rey: "Why does everyone ask me that!?"

 

Or they could steal the HISHE dialog..

Luke: Who are you?
Rey: Rey. My name is Rey.
Luke: You're cute.
Rey: Ewwww, we could be rey-lated
Luke: Never bothered me before.

Luke first saying "Why are you here?" is popular. This would definitely work. But what if Rey takes charge and asks Luke why he is there? I think that would be great too.

 

If it follows TFA, Rey will tell Luke what to do and how to do it.

And teach him the ways of the Force.

 

I have no idea who will speak first, and what they will say. However, if Luke speaks first, I do have a proposal for a really creepy line:

Luke: Got a boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?

I think Luke will begin to open his mouth to speak the line he's been preparing in his head for the past twenty years.

Then Jimmy Kimmel suddenly appears and says: "My apologies to Luke Skywalker, we've run out of time" and then they cut to massive space battle elsewhere in the galaxy.

 

Who will eat first, Luke or Rey?
