    It has to be Luke. If not, it kind of diminishes his importance and story in the OT. I look forward to seeing wise, older Luke train and young Jedi. It all comes full circle.

    George Lucas specifically said that Luke would be the maine sage. In fact when he discussed this with Hamill way back in the 80's, the vision was always to be the sage that "passes on what you have learned." After the d-day announcement all of these old articles and interviews have popped-up stating such plans. There's no reason to believe that plan has changed; it follows the monomyth structure. Also, it seems highly probable that Luke will have at least one child to pass the Skywalker name to if even for just one generation (IE a daughter named Nomi for example)and will be mentor to the Solo kids, however many survive the EU decimation.

    I think Luke should go the way of the Qui-Gon Jinn and "leave" (Luke shall be immortal) at the end of the first act with the hero to go on and be forced to be trained by somebody else like PT Obi-Wan (perhaps Jaina, Ben, even Leia)
